You should probably mention the customizable beard options in the title. I feel like that would resonate with the DF community :P

Customisable beards?!? Can I finally play a video game with my own short full beard and long Van Dyke hybrid?

I'm really hoping this game doesn't have awful combat mechanics as War of the Roses. Hopefully they channel more Mount and Blade and get rid of that terrible bleeding/execution mechanics. WoTR combat was way too floaty and had very little weight to the attacks. Coupled with some extreme weapon balance issues and the squad spawning mechanics it promoted nothing more than roving bands of "gankers" which were impossible to take down without a bigger squad since they could just help each other back up.

I wonder what time period they're going for and what factions will be available. I suppose something like Ivar the Boneless' invasion of East Anglia makes the most sense since both factions should largely be the same martial wise. Seems a bit of a shame we won't be seeing the Kingdom of the Isles and the Celtic factions, those saxons just didn't quite have the same range of beard diversity. Also those Irish monks were pretty badarse I've heard.

EDIT: This might be the unknown game they were claiming to show in the "Paradox Platypus Homecoming Event". That's on tonight in about 12 hours, I'll post up if anything interesting comes along. Apparently it's been confirmed it will be War of the Vikings being shown, jolly good.

Customizable beards?!  Finally! I'll be able to grow the beard I've always dreamed of, but never had the genetics to procure!

OK, I have to reload the save.
There was a bit of a problem regarding flashfreezing, a ballistae, and a barrel of dwarven ale. Gonna fix it up.

Sorry I had to. Not much other game content to talk about at the moment.

Dexter's Lab was the best show ever. Any time you can interject it into a conversation, it's perfectly acceptable.

I'm hoping for a bit more historical leniency when it comes to battles and factions. As fun as it is to portray actual battles and such, I think a game should be fun first, accuracy later.

And yeah, I really hope they don't just do War of the Roses with new skins and locations. That would irritate me.

This is a sequel to the game made by Paradox Interactive war of the roses.

War of the Roses was not made by Paradox.
War of the Vikings is not being made by Paradox.
Both were/are made by Fatshark. Paradox publishes them, thats all  ;)

So I am back from the Paradox Event. I apologise for awful spelling since they offered an open  bar which I capitalised on.

War of the Vikings, from which I was told/asked.
1) No weapon breaking.
2) Now there is shield aiming like Mount & Blade.
3) there is a special move!
4) No horses.
5) No bleeding.
6) No execution animation, although you can still "slay" an enemy by attacking them on the ground.
7) No thrust attack/block.
8) Throwing weapons!
9) medium, heavy, light classes.
10) shields can take infinite arrows and not break.

Also some interesting information, Mount and Blade: Bannerlord will be self-published and will not be sold through Paradox.

Okay, so i'm coming into this topic fairly blind, only with my thought son WotR. I've made several comments on what I thought of that game and the jist of it is: had some good ideas but was a big disappointment.

Here's hoping Fat Shark has learned from their mistakes and makes a really awesome game. Believe it or not, I like games being awesome.

In reply to the above... what is this about shield aiming like in M&B, are you talking about how in Warband your shield will elevate up and down depending on how high or low you're looking? Also what's this about no thrusting? That just seems pretty weird.

No horses sounds good to me, there weren't any horses in WotR either. ::)

As for 'classes' I'm not 100% sure how it works but it would seem more dynamic to me to have your armor and weapons to determine what kind of things/attributes you have (your speed etc.). Does this mean they're dropping a perk system in favor of something like Chivalry?

Shield aiming is just what it sounds like, it lets you direct the shield with your mouse so you cover more vital areas like the head or stop a sneaky archer that is trying to snipe your hamstring.

There is no longer a "thrust attack" like in Mount and Blade/WotR. In those games if you did an upward jerk with your mouse your character would thrust their sword forward. The devs decided to remove it since it isn't quite as "telegraphed" as the other slashing attacks but also they believed that the weapons of the era were not made for thrusting. I'm not sure how true that is and I always thought the Saxons used a long dagger called a "Seax" that was primarily used for thrusting.

There were horses in WotR when I played it. They were a very late unlock and combined with the lance weapon they were extremely powerful. I'm rather happy they're gone since they didn't control quite right and horses were rarely used in the time period.

From what I understand about the class system there will be three archetypes you can select, heavy, medium, light. Only the light classes can have bows while the medium can have throwing weapons, heavy is reserved for full one on one melee. It appears that there are certain perks that are locked to the archetypes so you can't have a heavy based around quick storming and the like. Classes are no longer gear based like WotR

I also forgot to mention that WotV will introduce a dodge system. They didn't really go too far in depth with it but it sounds like the lighter classes can do small sidesteps and stuff to avoid being mangled completely by the heavier ones.

I got an alpha code from the event so I'll happily upload more information when the alpha rolls around as long as they don't have a draconian NDA.
