You enter the inn, though no one seems to really notice you. You go to the front of the tavern, and talk to the barkeeper.
"I've been looking for some demons. Would you happen to know of any stories relating to them?"
"Not much. One guy, Markus, started raving about some kinda fire demon, right before he ran into the wilderness. Some folks say that he saw the "Bringer of End Times", or whatever the church has them believing now. If you want to know about Markus, ask Anne, in the back. Markus is her husband.
He gestures towards a woman crying softly at a table, alone.

Talk to the weeping woman.

You walk over to Anne, and begin talking to her.
Hello?
"Oh...Hello.
I was wondering if you could give me some information on your husband.
I suppose. I think I need to talk about it anyways... He was searching in the tunnels connected to the well. He scrambled out, screaming, clutching his shoulder. As soon as I heard... I took him home and healed him. I'm the doctor, you know. Poor kids, having to see that...
She breaks down for a moment, sobbing.
His shoulder was covered in... blisters, buboes. Swollen massively. He started murmuring in his sleep. Kept saying "Demons", "The well" and "got to go back". We started keeping the door locked and watching him at all times. One day... We... We don't know how... He got out. He was seen running towards the well, screaming at the top of his lungs, and jumped in. He hasn't been seen or heard from since. No one's brave enough to go down there. But you will. You... You will, right?

"Soon.  I'll have to prepare first."

You stand up from the table, excusing yourself as you contemplate the demons you know of.

Strengths: Quick, small, and nimble
Weaknesses: Not very strong or tough

Role: Skirmisher
Strengths: Invisible in darkness, and much more powerful.
Weaknesses: Slowly dissipate when in the light.
Special: As they lose health, they begin to fade from the material plain, becoming harder to hit, but dealing less damage.

Of course, this isn't all of them. There are many more, most of which are much more dangerous.

You begin to leave the inn, when you hear someone yell "Wait!" behind you. Turning around, you see Anne running towards you.
I can't sit here doing nothing. Please, take me with you. I can help you, I know some healing magic.

Negative, her healing won't be of much use in combat.  Have her stay behind, we will most likely need her services after a battle.

Oh... I understand. I suppose I'd best be going home, then.
You leave in search of a weapons shop.
You look through your pouch, trying to find the gold pieces you need. While searching, you see your pair of daggers, scroll of Dancing Lights, and and unlit torch. At the bottom you see the gold. Counting it out, you have 296, which is just shy of what you need to buy one of the weapons. Still, being a dancer, most of your skills are better at use with a dagger instead of a broadsword or an axe.

Also, can demons actually be hurt by fire?  The ones that we know of, anyway.

What do our daggers look like?

Most demons are vulnerable to fire, though some, such as Pit Fiends, are so in tune with the Abyssmal Planes that they are fully immune, or even healed by fire. Of course, others take more damage from fire.
Your daggers are made of fine steel, with a silver-plated hand grip. The tip of it is electrum, so as to be more effective versus some demons. Your first name is deeply etched in one, while your last name is in the other.

Go back into the pub and buy some alcoholic spirit, not much, just enough to provide fuel for the torch.  Also, if possible, buy a flint and steel/tinderbox.  Then go to the well.

Buy as much alcoholic spirits as we can, then smash the bottles all over the bar and set it all on fire with a wall lantern. After all, there may be demons lurking in the bar, and we can be sure that if the bartender is indeed righteous, then his bar will be restored to him by the powers that be.
