What the heck are you supposed to do with a dragon in fortress mode anyway? Will they leave or do you have to kill em? Cuz they seem pretty impossible to defeat  :(

If you meet a dragon in fortress mode, you better hope that you have either a: a whole heck of a lot of spearmen, or b: doors that you can close to lock yourself inside.

Hrm, totally talking out my arse but I'd think some good stout doors would be the first thing, then draft up a bunch of spearmen and send them in in waves. To stack the odds, experienced crossbowmen(they can be trained with less risk of inevitably lethal wounds) at a safe distance to avoid the breath attack. Send the spearmen in waves and hope they get lucky and cripple the dragon.

Thing I've noticed with spears, at least in Adventure mode, if you're only going up against one target, and even with no skill, you can annihilate almost anything IF you get lucky and have a critical hit. It's just skewer-skewer-skewer from there until dead.  It's not so unbalanced, the damage per round is atrocious and therefore more targets = dead adventurer, even if you're lucky enough to get a critical.

If you've got the cojones and the means, you can try fortifying the walls of your fortress and installing ballistae behind them.  A ballista is a great weapon and though I've never actually tried using one against a dragon I imagine that it'd at least make it think twice.

And, of course, you don't necessarily have to kill them at all.
