Drowning in steel; Axes or swords?
« on: August 04, 2013, 06:55:20 pm »

Ok,

Secretchambers, my Eugenics Research complex, is now literally DROWNING in steel bars. (over 500 made, over 1000 iron bars still unprocessed, over 300 ore left to smelt)

So, other than armor sets of crazy, which weapon should I set up the military training cycle for?  Steel axe, or steel sword?

WanderingKid has a preference for steel, axes, microcline, and cinnamon.

Axe's served me better in practice. Less confusing for dwarves to use from what I've seen too :D

Axes it is then.

I am still processing ore at the moment.. looks like it will be around 4200 units of steel bars. Thats enough for armor and weapons I believe. :D

Tetrahydrite? Isn't that some sort of hydrocarbon?

I really only use hammers and perhaps spears for my actual military. Anything that gets through my Hall of Trials would have to be armored like a tank, and my forces would need the hammer's penetration to get anything done. I still use the other melee weapons (except maces, because I have a personal dislike for them as ripoff hammers)), but they're really only for ceremonial purposes.

Tetrahydrite is an ore of silver and lead. Specifically, the silver is for said hammers. :D

Second that, for when the problem has 1meter thick metal-grade leather and too much limbs to hack.
Works well on everything that have vital organs.
Behind that, steel axes allow for precision removal of any dangerous body part, if you really wants to deal with the problem manually.
Steel hammer may seems a waste when you can have bronze, but they wreck armor, wich is always usefull against humanoids armored enough to pass trap corridors.

Now i think corridor traps of 10x ☼steel serrated disks☼. Will it blend?

((First, galena is the ore of silver and lead, not tetrahedrite. Second, tetrahedrite, not tetrahydrite :P.))
