The Dogs Of War

So, prior experience has taught me that a sufficient number of dogs in a sufficiently small area is a terrifyingly effective defense against lesser enemies. In my first foray into dwarven science, I've been considering whether it would be possible to increase the threat.

My basic plan is to build a system of pumps, drains, and floodgates such that a constant stream of depth 4-7 water is formed, washing over chained female dogs, eventually flowing into a chamber with depth 6 or less that can be opened into the fortress at large. Ideally, and barring fundamental misunderstandings on my part, this will result in newborn puppies being immediately swept into the swimming chamber, where they will beef up via swimming until adulthood, whereupon they will be released upon an unsuspecting noble into the fortress at large.

Will this work, though?

i don't think dogs gain stats. Read up on DF genetics, maybe you can breed big and strong dogs even if you can't train em to be that way.

On top of that, there're a glitch that some critters born and raised in fortress don't grows up properly. I think DFHack or something have a routine that fixes it.

Being small has combat advantages, at least, according to the wiki.
