The game is quality---even in this current pre-alpha state I can see the potential and the outlines of the aims for it down the line only further solidify it.  The dev is also pretty stellar in terms of taking feedback and nice in general, so there's that as well.  Compared to most, you could trace the influence of this one moreso back to Castle of the Winds than a *BAND or *hack---which is a bit refreshing.

Ultimately, it is a KS---so if folks aren't feeling it at the moment there's no harm until just waiting until it is complete down to line to revisit it and see how it has progressed.  There's room for all sorts of Roguelikes, commercial and otherwise---always good to see a passion project of the last several years as is the case here "make it".

I'm enjoying it, don't really see enough to really stand out and deserve to be paid for while other roguelikes don't need to be, but it is still a solid roguelike that also has a gimmick and it's not like $10 is very much.

My last death playing it was a little frustrating though, especially as I had a lot of proofs of stremf on me. Basically a enemy used their AoE around themselves spell Coldnado early so I only got hit by the last turn of it as they walked out into view, still taking out half my health. Still they wouldn't be much of a threat now and I could kill them in one/two turns with no need to use movement abilities, resist or healing items, oh wait they instantly restarted and killed me with coldnado. I guess I should have been more cautious as they could have other abilities with similarly high damage but it being by that one again is kind of annoying death.

I'm a little wary of the "light-hearted" and "humor" aspects, the fact is that most people aren't very funny and indie developers don't have the money to hire funny people.  But the "In dungeonmans, you always have enough rope to hang yourself" line has given me a little faith.

I played this for about an hour last night, to me it felt like a rough cross between Rogue Legacy and Tome 4.   It is a decent little game already, but I have a couple issues with it.

Pros:  the writing is quirky and light hearted
Had a very cool procedural story telling moment
Controls are easy

Cons: skill system is very bland and very few choices
I lost my best character and had 0 options to live... Bitter much lol

I'll probably throw a couple more hours into this though.

For $10 to get a copy, I think that's plenty for me to back. Not exactly a fan of the art style, but it looks pretty crunchy.

You don't seem to be a fan of many art styles :P

Has a lot to do with many of the games looking the same. There's a cartoony vibe to many indie rogue likes and platformers that simply doesn't do it for me. This, Rogue Legacy, Dungeons of Dredmore....it's like, can anyone make a Roguelike that isn't stuck with a completely goofball aesthetic? I don't need grim dark, but total frivolity takes me out of game in a big way.

Kind of like it so far. I like the academy gimmick and the game is fairly intuitive. My negatives are that it is pretty repetitive and a bit too simplistic. Also, fuck ice mages, meeting one of them is like a 500% difficulty spike compared to everything else.

EDIT: Also, in my opinion it is not worth paying for from my experience in the alpha. There are other free roguelikes that are far better, but then again, it is only alpha so it might still become awesome.

Yeah it is EXACTLY like TOME in that respect. You could be in a groove defeating everyone along the way even taking on bosses with relative difficulty.

Ohh look enemies with elemental ranged attacks... Wait, Why is my HP decreasing so fast? Owww Oww AHHH! THE PAIN!!! Why is the game suddenly so tough?

Heck who the Champions of the dungeons are is also important. I once fought a ghost and they were pathetically easy, while in another it was a champion berserker and it was nearly impossible to beat.

Another annoying aspect of the game is that heroes can just get bored of a dungeon. If they outlevel a dungeon inside the dungeon... it will stop dropping treasure.

It's worth a play, worth paying for? nahhhh, and if you consider the fact that games like DF/TOME/DCSS are free then there are so many better options out there and much more deserving of my donations.

This just got released today. The final version. Has anyone played it recently? Wondering if the finished version is worth getting.

It has seen a ton of interim early access updates and additional polish in the last year or so, with yet more planned for post release support updating to make things extra nice and even meatier---definitely a worthy Roguelike in general and quite likely already a modern classic.

It looks great and Steam reviewers seem to love it, I'm buying it. :)
I feel 15€ is a bit high for this genre though.
