I kind of like how the game is progressing. We are actually getting pretty powerful.

Which may sound silly... but trust me... Games where the progress in game matches the progress in story are somewhat uncommon.

What do you mean?

"Oh cool, I can kill Bin Weevils now! OMG FIRST BOSS A GIANT TANK WITH LASER NUKES AND 10hp."

There's a lot of games out there where you're destroying the laser tanks while the story basically says you get wrecked by some really easy monster you moved on from grinding ages ago.

"Oh no!  It's a troll!  Whatever will we do?!"
"You realize I've been killing Goliaths since five levels ago, right?"
"Aaaaaah!  Troll so strong!  We all ded!"
MC sighs uncontrollably.

I think a lot of the story strength to actual strength match up in this is because most of our ships and whatnot are pretty static up until this point.  They haven't given us anything game-breaking, and all the good ships have been attached to an NPC that flies off on a whim.

Oh, I see! So you mean a situation where you the plot uncontrollably makes you lose to something you'd have the chance to beat? :)

Pretty much, yeah.  Hanzoku has been telling us that most of the ships we've been fighting have been pretty tough at this point, and they're supposed to be by story standards.  We've also gotten a lot stronger than the tiny little ship we had in the very beginning, and the story acknowledges that.  It's a pretty cool feeling all around.

I'm sure it can't be that bad.
It's a classic case of "it's so bad, it's actually good". YMMV, though.
I wish I could post some screens, but that would be spoiling the surprise. And trust me, you WANT the surprise; the reveal is gonna be fun and funny.

Pretty much, yeah.  Hanzoku has been telling us that most of the ships we've been fighting have been pretty tough at this point, and they're supposed to be by story standards.

We just ran a flank attack against Elgavan ships before attacking the enemy flagship head-on; Nia's comment makes little sense and Hanzoku did call it out.
Remember the Spider Web back in Kalymnos? I could squat those pirate ships all day long, but the game still forced me (and all of us) to go through the loops.

The "0-g Dog" list will soon particularly shift that situation in our favor, although Hanzoku won't take the advantage .... Celina's ship? It's one of the prizes. Laser Accelerator and all.

It's a good game. I had a good time playing it. I started a replay, but my workload prevents me from doing a LP right now ... royally pissed about that.

The game does a good job of pointing out when enemies should be far tougher then you, and why. I've complained about the tech disparity between the SMC and LMC, but you know when you come across an LMC warship that it's an order of magnitude stronger then your ship. Lugovalian ships are even worse, though the LMC ships can at least do some damage.

The Spider's Web section was pretty egrarious, I agree. Assuming the enemy is forced to come at me five at a time, I could have shot my own way through. Outside the battle mechanics, they do make it clear attacking would (normally) be suicide, since it would have been two ships versus fifty or so.

I might eventually show off the top-tier prizes from the Fame rewards, but not until near the end game, based on ship prizes. Starting with Rank 40, we start receiving ship designs as well as the modules. For those who are curious...

If I remember right, there were some mech-ships that you could get in NG+?  If I read that right earlier anyway.  How do they compare to what we have now and Valentin's ship?  And how much harder are they to get?

They're actually strike craft. Their big deal is they're two or three times the size of a regular fighter, so you need a lot more hanger space to field the maximum possible number of strike craft in battle (120 total).

They're awesome monsters though, according to the stats I can find. Slightly more then twice as powerful as non-mobile weapons of the same type, and there's (supposedly) another version after your second New Game + that is multirole and three times as powerful.

Despite all that, they're not Gundum powerful, so a single one won't be able to one-shot our battleship. (Luckily).

Ah, that one ... I have pictures of it. It's downright silly, but still an impressive and respectable module capacity. Cost to build it is prohibitive and it actually slowed down the emulator, just to give people an idea of the number of polygons it packs.

Ok seeing Yuri is almost plot twist worthy given I honestly didn't see him leaving his old aesthetics.

Also... he somehow now looks like he is genetically related to Nia... I might have to check if that is true. It would certainly explain her willingness to just go along with whatever we say for little in return other then being the best character in the game.

I would say your right. They do look similar.

Regardless, I would say they did a pretty good job at making the transition from Young Yuri to Prison Yuri pretty jarring. It's been 10 years, but it only really shows that fact by how different Yuri is. I wonder how Torlo and Kira are holding up...

He's definitely not related to Nia. Yuri is albino, while Nia is more fantasy 'look at my white hair while I'm 24'.

Her willingness to let Yuri charge off and do silly things has always seemed to me to be a bit of a 'school of hard knocks' training. Either Yuri manages it, or he fails and learns from the experience. She does speak up when what he's doing is likely to be out and out fatal, like attacking a superior warship head on.

HEHEHEHEH ... now wasn't that a shocker, huh? The slightly-psychotic teen Yuri who would slice off pirates' arms to get information out of them is now "Yuri the Man", a no-nonsense guy. What might he have picked up, with these last 10 years spent in prison? The world can only guess.

Wait, that bastard Eremon survived??? How COULD he? He was in a system whose sun went SUPER-FREAKIN'-NOVA!!! And he didn't even have a ship to escape! He was left shot and bleeding in a crippled ship. HOW IS THAT SUPPOSED TO BE POSSIBLE?!?!?! Nia died in vain ...  :'(

(For the sake of SCIENCE!, this is what a Supernova does and probably looks like ... probably, being the operative word. Spoilers for another game, be warned: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_qiWAgQeAVY)

Coincidentally, the Galactic Federation is Space America.

Actually ... you know what, I'll just keep my mouth shut. :P
But just you wait until we start reading ship classes. ;)

I don't know man. It's been 10 years and they were left abandoned back in the SMC, which Desmond states to have fully brought under Lugovalian control. If they tried to play Rebel Alliance, they might as well be dark matter by now...

True. Kira may be a bright girl, but with considerations that Cico is on the Darkside, I don't think she stands/stood a chance. Torlo is another matter. I should hope that Torlo managed to stay low and out of trouble, as that would be rather embarrassing. He may not be the brightest tool in the shed sometimes, but Torlo is space-smart. If anyone is going to simultaneously cause and avoid trouble, it's him.

No idea about Ian though... He's by far and away the biggest wildcard character right now. When I think about it, he's the one I want to know about the most. His story could branch off in a multitude of ways due to how his character was built. It intrigues me!
