Once Yuri has recovered sufficiently, we travel onward, docking at the abandoned station long enough to repair the scratches on the hull of the
Lykourgos before we make our final jump to the enemy fleet.
Nia: There it is! The Lugovalian fleet!
You can see that Elgavan ships are fighting side by side with their masters.Unfortunately, we're not too stealthy in our approach.
Desmond: Commander! Detached force spotted, port N577!
Eremon: Just a minor annoyance. Have the Elgavan forces on the port flank deal with it. Our priority right now is the Regeinlandic fleet in front of us.
Thank Grus. If he sent a Lugovalian ship at us, we'd all be dead.Onboard the Regeinlandic flagship...
Operator: Captain Schenizer! The enemy's left flank is breaking formation!
Bastian: It looks like Yuri has arrived. What's the word from the
Krebs?
Officer: This is the
Krebs, sir. Energy charging at 65 percent, sir!
They're already powering up to fire. Things aren't going well.Bastian: We can't hold them very long! Prepare the exalaser cannon as fast as you can!
Officer: Roger, sir!
The Krebs really is just a massive laser cannon and just enough ship to move it around.Meanwhile, aboard the
Nikusui...
Nia: Yuri, the Elgavan fleet at the flank is heading this way!
Yuri: Roger! All hands, prepare for anti-ship!
We've fought this battle before, one cruiser and four destroyers. It doesn't go any better for them this time, either.
Yuri: We did it! Now let's go for that flagship!
Yuri, are you nuts?Nia: No, Yuri! We did what we came here to do! Now it's time to break away!
Yuri: But this is our chance to defeat their flagship We're going in!
You fucking idiot.Ha ha... hahahaha... Oh crap we're screwed.
It's us versus Eremon's
Belenus-class battleship.
For what it's worth, I launch fighters to hold them in place and move into attack range. He opens up with a barrage straight away, but the designers have mercy on us, and he's not using his proper weapon systems, so the
Lykourgos is barely scratched. We treat him to a barrage in return, but there's nothing wrong with his armor, and even Celina's weapons are only doing 1-5 damage, except for some very hefty crits.
Yuri: Damn. We're not even making a dent.
Which is why I'm yelling at you, you idiot.Nia: Yuri, turn around! You're just bangin' your head against a wall!
Celina: Ohh, we're in trouble! Enemy reinforcements just showed up!
They're hard to make out being brown against a red background, but it looks like a fleet carrier, a battleship and fifteen or so destroyers.
Borisova: Fleets 3075 and 3076, which were deployed in Nova Nacio, have just arrived, sir.
Eremon: Good. Position them along either flank. Have them surround the enemy and annihilate them.
Onboard our ship...
Semias: Yuri, we're getting completely penned in here!
Yuri: Damn it.
Celina: I'll keep them at bay! You look for a way out!
Yuri: Celina, wait!
She doesn't, taking off straight into the enemy fleet.
Yuri: Semias, can you find us an escape route?
Semias: I'm looking, but I'm afraid the enemy is all around us.
Yuri: Damn it! Now what?!
??: What the Grus are you doing, kid?! You trying to get yourself killed? Har har har!
What the Grus are you doing here?Yuri: Huh?!
The
Corsair comes in and starts making a mess of things. Even Lugovalian ships are taking damage.
Yuri: It's the
Corsair!Yeah, that 'har har har' of his is pretty distinctive.Pirate: We cleared a path, Captain!
Valantin: All right, my men! Time to give 'em a little treat! Prepare a high-stream blast!
...I wish my specials were this powerful.Desmond: Aaaaagh!
Eremon: What is it?!
Soldier: I don't know, sir! It's some kind of attack from an unidentified enemy ship! About fifteen percent of our allies are down! Our ship has sustained major damage too, sir!
Eremon: Tsk! Don't allow yourselves to be daunted! We still have an overwhelming advantage over them!
Let Valantin fire that thing a few more times, he'll fix that for you.Semias: Yuri! Valantin made huge headway for us!
Yuri: Yeah! And the flagship is badly damaged too! Let's push it hard and open up a path of retreat!
At least retreat is logical, shooting at the enemy flagship? Not so much. We're up against Eremon's ship again, this time without Celina’s battleship to serve as a soak for us. I start off by launching fighters and evading, as the enemy is also in the yellow power range. He opens with a barrage that we evade and counter with our own barrage. The damage he's taken has obviously compromised his hull, as our shots are hitting for normal amounts of damage.
We both charge up and evade at the same time. He breaks the deadlock by firing a normal shot, which we return with a barrage before evading, avoiding his own counter-barrage. This leaves us both at low power, but I think we're still ahead of the game. Our fighters break off and start returning, letting Eremon begin to open the range. He hits us with another normal attack as we deploy our fighters, and then we both begin charging for another barrage. I get a barrage in unopposed as Eremon diverts power to swatting our fighters, and we both are in the yellow and charging to full. We dodge just ahead of another barrage and hammer him with one in return, doing enough damage to end the battle.
This is first time in a long while that a battle was actually tense. Failing to avoid those barrages would have killed us for sure, and if he had used more normal attacks he would have pounded us to scrap.Yuri: We did it?!
Semias: We're clear, Yuri! Evacuate now!
As the
Nikusui turns to make a run for it, a small ship slips free.
Yuri: Hold on! Hey, who just broke away from us?!
Semias: ...
Yuri: Semias! Where's Nia?! Don't tell me that was her!
Semias: Engines, full power! Withdraw to the area behind the Regeinlandic fleet!
Yuri: Semias! Semias, stop!
Semias: ...
Yuri: What's wrong with you? What are you trying to pull here?!
Semias: Yuri, please forgive me. Lady Nia demanded that I get you away safely to the Large Magellanic Cloud.
Yuri: But, Nia! She's--!
