I'm still expecting "The Power of Friendship" to be useful in certain situations. :P
Why not The Power of Love?

This is the absolute climax of the story; no really, it's awesome as it gets, IMHO. We had twists and turns, but here Yuri gets beaten down and lies on the floor, completely broken - his friends (aside from the crew on the ship) are as good as dead; he practically witnessed Nia dying. His whole world galaxy got conquered, he got thrust into a place he surely knows nothing of (LMC) and the point of no return was the magellanic stream going nebula with Vasta blowing up; that's the same as severing a bridge over a big chasm.

The good thing though, is that that bastard Eremon is dead. We don't see his body, but he was onboard a crippled ship and was in a fight with Nia, in a place that just had a supernova. You can outrun a fireball, but SURELY you can't outrun a supernova. :-\ :-X :P

Would not be surprised to see either of them survive, and / or the ten year timeskip involving "oh btw the LMC got conquered by Lugovalos anyway lol."

It's certainly the climax of the rational story, that's true. The next part starts rational but towards the end, we'll be looking at the game and wondering why the designers thought that using LSD during the story meetings was a good idea.

For all that the plot starts going odd, I didn't find the second half of the game to be a disappointment in any sense of the word - but it certainly spins far out of anyone's control.

Without spoiling too much, does anything majorly new get introduced (e.g another huge empire / alien swarm / massive moving sentient planet) or is the existing situation (lugovalos, LMC, SMC recolonisation, useless government, epitaph, valantin) just switched up and / or progressed? :)

Yes.

Sorry, but I'm not sure if a real answer would in itself be spoiling too much.  There's still a lot of politicking in Act 2, though; that won't change.

Sorry again, but I couldn't resist.  Since I didn't exactly give much detail even in the transparent text, though, and while trying to avoid any serious spoilers...

They threw everything and the kitchen sink, story-wise. It's crazy, zany, and downright unfocused ... the story writers got LSD; the scenario writers got marijuana. And the game programmers were stuck on coffee, so they got angry at us.

Word to the wise: once the 2nd part of the story begins, saving often is downright mandatory. We'll soon see why.  ;)

I kind of like how the game is progressing. We are actually getting pretty powerful.

Which may sound silly... but trust me... Games where the progress in game matches the progress in story are somewhat uncommon.
