Guardsman flak is 2 less armor. With best condition it's only 1 less armor and already weighs less then mine before being cut in half. So it's just barely better and weighs almost 3x as much. Gonna be fun trying to play the guy who's meant to lead attacks when I'm the slowest in the squad.

If we fight something like Chaos Space Marines, can we take their equipment?

Firstly, if you're fighting Chaos Space Marines it'd be extremely unlikely you'd get out of that encounter alive. Secondly, even if you do come across their equipment it would be EXTREMELY dangerous to take them. A majority of the equipment used by some of the more powerful followers of Chaos are tainted with corruption, and using them can be very dangerous and potentially affect your character over the long-run.

Sorry, that's just how it works out. You get what you get, period. Either make due with what you have, or die horribly.

Always good to ask . I wasn't sure if it tainted equipment as well.

I know, but getting better armor is going to be basically impossible so I'm either gonna be stuck trying to catch up with the fighting or everybody else is going to have to move far slower and my heavy armor is now very little use since everybody else's armor is virtually just as effective.

The whole concept of my character is pretty much now useless.

I think you're over-reacting to something EXTREMELY minor. Your armor doesn't weight THAT heavier than the armor everyone else has, and due to your slightly above average strength and good toughness it isn't going to matter. Movement is entirely based around agility in combat anyways, and the weight of your armor doesn't matter unless you're overburdened. During longer, more peaceful hikes you're not going to magically have more trouble moving around than other people, it's seriously not a big deal. Calm down.

It's not a bad thing that we're well equipped enough to rival a storm trooper's armor, and you still have a better weapon than most of us as well as better training. Quite frankly, if your entire character was based around having the best armor, you have a terrible character anyway.

Your character's core purpose isn't invalid. If it was, just having the armor in the first place would make you unable to do your "core purpose". You're just as able to do what you intended to do in the first place, and just because you're not the only cool elite you envisioned yourself being in the first place doesn't mean you're unable to do anything. Just because other people have similar equipment doesn't mean you're suddenly invalidated.

My weapon is hardly better, 1 damage more then you, lower range, slightly higher rate of fire, larger clip, twice as long to reload, it's about equal to the rest of you.

I didn't envision a cool elite to begin with, to begin with I envisioned my character to be the armored core of the squad. But thats kinda out the window now.
The cool elite side is what I envision for my character by the end of the game, but getting a set of best quality of probably the rarest armor in the game is going to be impossible.

You're angry because people in the party are actually competent and you're just not the best person in the party, that's pretty much what I'm hearing. What you don't seem to understand (or care to) is that the Hotshot Laser gun has much more shots than the average las gun, it also has what most las guns don't have, PENETRATION. PENETRATION IS VERY IMPORTANT AGAINST ARMORED TARGETS, WHERE MOST LAS GUNS HAVE 0 PENETRATION. I already told you this.

You getting angry and basically saying that the point of your character is now "out the window" because you're not the absolute best at combat implies that you were only focused on how good your character would be in combat, and not whether or not you're character would be interesting or fun to play with.

I already said I'm not angry. Sheesh why do people always assume that because you said something it means your angry.

I didn't expect to be the best at combat at all, I'd expect that to be the weapon specialist since they have far more weapons training.

Will you please stop assuming I'm angry because I disagree with something or give my point of view? It's an extremely irritating tendency people seem to have on forums. They always assume people are angry and can not just respond to a point without assuming so first.

I was simply pointing out that the original idea I had for my character was as the armored core which is no longer valid or at least is far less valid now that everybody else is almost as well armored. Thats it, it just means I need to decide on a new build for how I'm going to advance my character since I don't need to focus it around being the kind of squad tanker.

But arghhh, now I am starting to get angry because people keep making damned assumptions about me based on the fact that I gave my point of view.
So time to find my old copy of l4d2 so I can relax and murder zombies before I get stressed.

I'm just trying to tell you that your character can still be what you originally intended. Armor isn't everything, and quite a few weapons will be able to negate a lot of it. Penetration and armor basically work like this: If the penetration is higher than the armor value of the specific body part, then all damage goes through. If the Armor Value is for example five, and the penetration is three, then one point of damage is taken off the attack. You can still very well tank things, considering you have one of the highest wounds value of everyone else and a large amount of toughness as well. Don't assume because everyone has good equipment, that you're suddenly less effective at doing your job.

I find that in Only War, battlefield roles aren't super strictly defined. Everyone is going to have to do a bit of everything, and all that matters is if you're able to shoot guys effectively and get out alive.

I'd like to point out that having Specialist Equipment doesn't throw your normal Regiment-issued one out of the window. Via the rules, a Stormtrooper stills keeps their basic kit, which means the same Best Flak Armour. It is also worth noting other people in the squad would probably accept a donation of a stormtrooper carapace armor.

Which strangely reminded me of something: do we have any Sergeant?

Not to my knowledge, but we still have someone in our group who hasn't decided on his specialty yet I believe.

GM ruled that I don't keep the flak armor, which is the main bit that I dislike about it not upgrading my armor.
If I still had the flak armor I'd have a pretty rare piece of high quality equipment that I could trade off later on for something more useful to me, gaining me something out of 10 points spent on upgrading all the flak armor the same as I intend to trade off whatever sidearm we wind up with. It's no use to me but I can use it to get myself something else that'll be more useful.

Instead of getting nothing at all from it.



Harbinger picked weapon specialist as of yesterday, dunno if he's changed it since.
