Honestly unlike a lot of other games if Kings of Dragon Pass ever got a sequel I'd actually would want it to be the first enhanced.

Mostly so you can find out things like... Why did the dragons rampage? or making friends with all the dark races.

Heck alternate endings! Since I actually find the way that this game ends to be kind of silly.

It's sort of crudely following the lore of Glorantha (not that the lore of Glorantha is always very self-consistent or well established). Hence why it ends the way it does, because the orlanthi and the grazers getting together and forming a kingdom was how Sartar was formed. It's supposed to lead into the events that happen hundreds of years later when Dragon Pass gets conquered by the Lunars.

Also the Dragons went on a rampage because humans who were mostly from outside of Dragon Pass led a gigantic army against them. They killed off all the ones that were friendly to them probably because they either didn't make much distinguishment between them and the attackers, and/or because they were tired of having them around.

My understanding is that the dragons killed the humans in the Empire of Wyrm's Friends because they looked into the future (greater dragons are closer to gods than anything else) and saw the results of not killing the humans.

Part 6 is up, and oooh boy is it fun. The most Dwarvenly year so far!
Despite feuding with only one clan, and being disliked by only one other, we get a raid, after a raid, after a raid...
Lose our own ones, get bad events, have our reputation magically lowered...

..and then it comes, the game over event.

So : Reload a year or restart?
There is no point continuing, as it will take many years to have a chance to become the king again, and we have one Orlanthi in the village.. who sucks.
Our Ring was what gave us progress, and my biggest investment. Despite loosing the war leader, it was salvagable, as we could just bribe and bluff our way through the next years. But that King has cost me 4 hero quests and hundreds of cattle, goods and warriors. Without him we're at day 1 again.

I'd restart in the long game, the situation has been deteriorating for some time now. Besides, this way you can restart with thralls.

Keep in mind that we're close to winning despite all the bad events. Except for the king death.

That one was extremely unlikely even in the Dragonewts Poet event. NOT giving them the poet may agitate them, and lead to "Dragonewts destroy your tula" event, which ends the game.

I'm watching the video right now. That 22 year old that was wounded in the beginning? He worships both Elmal and Orlanth. He would be a good replacement for your king.

So the railroad is because it needs to follow continuity.

You know. I really want to see the end of a game. And I am not sure if this game actually has the entertainment value to go on for another 30 episodes to beat the long campaign (although I would not be adverse to trying, since Tad seems to be okay at stopping boring games.)

So my vote would be save scumming to beat this game then evaluating on the long campaign.

I would also like to point out:

Fortunes of the clan with a Trickster on the ring? Steadily moving upward.
Almost as soon as the Trickster dies? Everything goes to shit.

It's not even about savescumming. It was just a minor bullshit event costing us the game. It just happened that our King is also our Poet.

If i got "Elves destroy your tula : Game over" event, i'd be fine calling it. This is losing the game for an event worth 50 goods. I would be happy to give away all of my ring for the king alone. He will win us the game.
