Hello folks,

With the increasing popularity of Gun of Icarus Online on this forum recently and to support the game, I'm giving away two copies of the game via a random draw.

All you have to do to be in the draw is:
1. Post a picture of your own version of Gun of Icarus-style airship (you can use free image hosting website, such as TinyPic); and
2. Tell us its name.

Entries will be closed on Friday, 2 August at midnight Australian Eastern Standard Time (GMT+10).

A couple of rules:
1. One entry per person; and
2. No Escaped Lunatics and no accounts made after 27 July 2013.

Airships as in the ones in game. I've seen a lot of spaceship designs but not enough airships.

I'll jump in.  Always thought Guns of Icarus was pretty cool, just never had the money to actually play it or anything.

Called the Gapher, its compact size and heavy armor make it a good troop transport, but its lack of speed and agility derail its potential as a combat ship.  In reality, its a simple freight hauler converted to wartime use.

It is the Angel, called such because of it's halo shaped balloon, and the fact that it is best used descending from above, as it's hull is massive armored on the bottom.

And no, I have no idea what the Airships in this game actually look like. Hopefully this is enough to qualify me for the drawing though?

Alouette, thanks for posting. Unfortunately, I believe I have to stick to the rules to not encourage non-lurking Escaped Lunatic to sign up just to be in any of Bay12 giveaway threads. I am glad you've gone out from lurking, though! The airship you posted does look awesome since the decks seem to be build around the balloon. It feels rather futuristic and edgy.

Just to clarify to any participants, your airship picture could be hand-drawn on Paint (or whatever graphic software of your choice).

So, lacking in any art skills whatsoever, I pushed on ahead and made this awful MS Paint drawing. It REALLY fails to give any justice to the grand idea in my head, sadly.

This is the Hammer of Vengance class Capitol Ship. Instead of the stardard configuration, through a series of counterweights, cables, and support structs passing throught the main airship structure, her main armament is instead positioned along one of the airship's walls, allowing for truely devastating broadsides. The "standard" mooring fixture is merely used as a means of docking for her, with most of her crew compartments, battlements, etc, taking place on her massive side wall. She is intended to operate in larger fleet actions, as her unique design makes her innefective in single ship actions, however, as part of a coordinated airship fleet, she is vital in projecting firepower.

This is the Boreas, a somewhat bulky vessel designed to be maneuverable but not particularly fast, hence the small propellers and large fins all about.

This is the Rhinoceros, the class ship of a line of large cargo ships. Originally commissioned in response to increasing privateer attacks, the Rhinoceros class was designed to be a convoy ship, used either in groups of 3 or more or with minimal escorts.  As such, it has  an armament of six large carronades - highly unusual for a freighter; the goal being the ability to pose a threat to the armored rams then popular as raiding vessels.  It has a heavy cast-iron frame, and along with the substantial cargo hold and lightly armored bridge, engines, fuel tanks, and sponsons, this makes it extremely heavy and maneuverable.  However, it's six powerful engines give it a good speed for its bulk, and as it could keep up with the warships of the time, several others in the line were converted to naval auxiliaries.  Of note is the large, ornamental bronze ram, from which the class derives its name; while virtually useless as a weapon, due to the ship's poor agility and its nature as a cargo ship, the ram was added to counterbalance the heavy engines all placed at the back of the vessel, a formation intended to improve the turning speed.  The class is now outdated and out of production due to it's high cost, advances in technology, and the fact that the threat it was meant to face has changed significantly, but is still in wide use do to it's long production life and robust design.
