I know this is not close to any fantasy rpg or jrpg but you MUST try Sims Urbz in the city & Sims Bustin' Out BOTH for GBA

They have awesome histories!

I don't think this counts under Pokemon, because it's a spinoff of sorts.

Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Red Rescue Team.

It's the last GBA game released. It's basically a roguelike. No permadeath, but random levels, different dungeons and a nice story. You can recruit all the Pokemon with some luck. Even the legendaries. (Altough  nothing survives lvl100 Flamethrower+5)

Knowing Belgium, everyone will vote for themselves out of mistrust for anyone else, and some kind of weird direct democracy coalition will need to be formed from 11 million or so individuals.

Metroid Fusion

Almost nobody likes this game except me, but I really don't see what's wrong with it. It's definitely not a bad game, it's just different from the other Metroids in that there's less exploration and a lot more talky-talky stuff.

Final Fantasy Tactics Advance

I don't care what anybody says, this is my favorite Final Fantasy game of all time and probably my favorite RPG. The combat is incredibly deep, the story is charming, and the whole thing dodges the JRPG stereotypes that turn me off to every other Final Fantasy (except VI). There's also 300 missions, most of which turn into their own storylines.

Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith

An amazing little beat-em-up that got overshadowed by the crap movie it's based on. You can play as either Obi-Wan or Anakin, both of which have their own unique paths that diverge after the first boss fight and meet back up at the end. Not a long game, but good enough in its own right.

Shantae

Not exactly GBA, but god damn this game is amazing. Amazing graphics, amazing music, tight gameplay, everything. The only problem is that the cheapest copy I've seen went for a few hundred USD on Amazon. If you can find it in a game store for cheap, definitely pick it up.

My personal favorite is Summon Night: Swordcraft Story, both 1 and 2.

It's not that the game is bad, far from it. And most people regard it fairly well. It's just that it is a more linear experience with large amounts of exposition compared to the relatively open worlds of games like Super Metroid and Zero Mission. The different structure just didn't click with some people who expected something different. You can also trace a direct path from it to the creation of Other M which is widely considered the worst in the series, which creates more bad vibes.

It's another one that gets compared unfavorably to it's predecessors, but if you take it for what it is Tactics Advance is a pretty good game.
The story is a lot less serious than Tactics which is the main reason it gets flak from previous fans. Heck, I still have my 100% clear save in it.

Why is "not serious enough" ever a legitimate reason to dislike a video game?

And to be honest, it's actually kinda serious.
