Whoa! Just... wow.

It seems we will have to cut down a shitload of trees to make clear sight for the archers... will dwarves able to see trough those leaf tiles?

A forest that actually looks like a forest! Very nice. I'm now rather curious about how woodcutting is going to work - will we be felling trees whole, then cutting them for lumber? Or will trees act like constructions, collapsing into their component logs when cut down?

I just had a mental image of that second one from a dwarfs point of view - he's cutting away with his axe, when the wood suddenly drops to the ground, leaving the leaves to settle on bury Urist McLumberjack.

There's safe. Then there's unsafe. And then there's the average dwarf fort, which remains unrated because the OSHA inspector flatly refused to go anywhere within a dozen miles of the place.

I was coming to this thread make a mountain joke, but yeah: that's really impressive, and leaves me with lots of questions to answer when the next version is out :D

I really hope that I can cut only half of a tree, build a support, attach a lever to it and then cut the rest of the tree.

And then greet the elves with the gift of wood.

Hmm, it looks like they all begin branching 2 levels above the ground - or are those all the same kind of tree?

That's what I came here for also, but then I realized that the title is accurate (in a sense) so I stopped.

Children you rescue shouldn't behave like rabid beasts.  I guess your regular companions shouldn't act like rabid beasts either.
I think that's a little more impossible than I'm likely to have time for.

I just hope cutting a tree down doesn't cause a tree version of "the ceiling collapsed!" when it's implemented. Wouldn't put it past toady to make logging dangerous.

I want forest-traps.

Collapse all the wood onto elven caravans once they enter the map.
Regrow, repeat until siege.
Repeat

Will those new trees completely substitute the trees as they are now, or will we see a mixture of both? I imagine it would require 'ladders' to safely cut off the branches first, and maybe then tree stumps, to avoid FUN.

I wonder if they'll actually leave stumps now.
