So, played a handful of matches of GoIO. The lag is absolutely abysmal, very difficult to do anything effectively when it just hangs. I know my internet's not the best, but it can play Tribes: Ascend without noticeable delay most of the time, and that's an FPS dealing with way more players and projectiles to keep track of. There's also a good deal of reports about the lag, so it's not just me.

Has anyone who has experienced really bad lag found a solution?

I hear the lag's been especially bad recently due to some server upgrades they haven't quite sorted the bugs out of yet. I noticed a bit of lag myself last time I played, but it seemed a bit intermittent.

I've found it's worse on certain maps, and it seems to be dependent on some mystery factor. Sometimes there is no lag at all! Sometimes the lag can get pretty bad.

It seems to have become worse since the last update, but I think they'll be releasing another one soon to help it get back to where it was before.

Even at it's worse though, I've found the game to generally be very playable as the lag generally comes in spurts. It can be pretty bad if you're a pilot, since that's all it take in some levels to crash into a building, but less important for most any other role.

I've never noticed any lag problems that aren't caused by my own horrible ISP. When my connection is stable, the game runs fine, with little to no noticeable lag at all.

I've only played Gunner so far, and it's really annoying when you're about to fire on an enemy and suddenly you lag for five seconds, the enemy is suddenly not there, you move to aim again and then there's another lag spike of 3-5 seconds. Also, you need to stop firing if there's lag because all of your shots will miss.

If you're trying to repair something right before it gets destroyed, or rebuild something if it's destroyed, better hope you don't lag because you can just keep banging away with a hammer or wrench under lag and it won't do any good. Ugh.

Glad to hear it's being worked on though.

Yeah, I never did understand how a game like this handles MP so terribly... perhaps it really is just the server infrastructure rather than the netcode, but who knows?

Seems to be server-side. My games have been perfect every night, except for last night. Last night, I was freezing for 5 seconds at a time throughout most of it.
