The Spire is great fun to pilot, especially with a good group of gunners, since you can effectively cripple a ship by concentrating massive amounts of fire on it without having to do much in the way of turning. However, I discovered that it is totally useless against an annoying 2 Pyramidion double ram attack, because they will catch you, and when they do you will be destroyed. The optimal way to beat a close range Pyramidion, so far as I can tell, is to use a long range Pyramidion; two Mercury guns on the front to pound them into oblivion, then a flak gun and gatling to finish off anything that gets close. A bit boring, but absurdly effective.

From what I've been reading, here and on the wiki, it seems that spire rewards skilled piloting and an organized crew. I really should try it sometime, see how it stands up. Or floats up. *shrug*

In terms of double pyramidions, I've had the best luck with a goldfish. It feels more spritely, and the frontal gun can disable a pyramidion. Or maybe it's because I'm most used to my neon *shrug*

If you're facing an enemy Spire, keep your distance with a Squid or Junker and use a frontal/side field gun. My crew and I were able to take out an enemy Spiral outside of their Manticore's range by doing so. They were actively repairing their hull, so it's just a case of the Spire having just poor enough hull for it.

We ran into a rocket carousel mobula today; it was quite painful. I still feel like there's more to that weapon than meets the eye...

That would be just fine, glad you got more people in! Next time, you can get a ship to yourself; winning is awesome, but I believe everyone is okay with helping others learn.

Oh yeah, that rocket mobula was pretty nasty, I was screaming for fires to be put out it seems every 2 seconds. What pisses me off though, is every time I use a rocket carousel, I can't hit anything at less than point blank range(and even then, I miss a lot!), which doesn't help with setting things on fire....

I've been using the coolant chemical instead of the fire extinguisher in our last games. Spray the most important parts of a ship as you pass by them (hull, balloon) and every once in a while make sure it's all cooled up. Never have to worry about fires again as long as you have access to those parts every so often.

You do kinda get in trouble when a nasty fire does break out. The only consolation is that once you chemical spray something with a fire greater than 3 then it can't catch any more stacks of fire, as far as I know.

If you're on for today's event, we should definitely try some kind of a ship with the carousel.
I've tried a junker with rockets/carousels and it worked quite well; but I remember the gunner not liking the carousels.
