Addy does sometimes overwrite other material preferences.  To the best of my knowledge though, a mood isn't decided immediatley, so you might be able to savescum for slade.

Of course, adamantine battle axes are pretty cool, just not as cool as a true slade weapon of apocalypse.

Query: How far would a goblin fly if it were hit with a slade war hammer?

My guess is that slade warhammers don't make things fly away, rather, they make mini black holes upon impact.

Yah, I was under the impression that materials are set once they claim the shop, but that appears to not be the case. He is asking for the same 5 materials (he asks for gems more than once) every time.

Well, it looks like this mood is a bust. >=/.

Thoughts: I was wrong about slade being moved to the stockpile and becoming bar image. They stay as ore image. Also, slade takes up the stone slot when a dwarf lists "likes." My guess inclination of slade behaving like metal is a rumor. I think it is a stone (my other slade artifacts are all mason/stonecrafting, and very heavy, where you have to hit the mason shop artifact jackpot to get your hammer/mace.

Also, being that I have 3 slade artifacts, slade may be prioritized upon mooding stoneworking dwarves, or I could have just gotten lucky.

I have a few dwarves that like maces. I'm going to impress a bunch of dwarves to be masons and see if I can get another favorable mood.

Slade whip... I think that may be the game's ultimate melee weapon...

I've never savescummed for artifacts, but I was under the impression (no source, just judgment) that the item to be made, and the materials, were decided at the moment of the mood, not upon claiming a workshop. Of course, that's how I would program it.

It's been my experience that the materials used in the artifact happen the instant the mood strikes. This is why I explicitly said "Before the dwarf moods" for savescumming.

Better luck next time.

It wouldn't matter. Adamantine will always be the metal asked for if you have it, and you cannot get slade without finding a pillar. So even if slade were metal, you'd end up the same. No?

You can get slade without a pillar if you happen to hit the 3rd cavern right near a Curious Structure.

However Slade does not have [METAL] in its raw so I don't think you can make metal things out of it anymore.

Also also, are you sure that admantine will always be the metal asked for if you have it? I thought it could be superseded by personal metal preferences.

No, it definitely overrides preferences.

New Migrant wave has two prospects, a dwarf that likes chert and war hammers, and a dwarf that likes slade, but also likes doors.

Dwarves have been tantruming for reasons I can't understand. Not spiraling, most dwarves are really happy. I dunno. Anything that kills dwarves makes me happy, more deaths = More possibly slade warhammer liking migrants. The salt blob FB shows promise.

I have most of the citizens making rock querns, just because they will be easy to mass dump.

A novice Mason is possessed! Goes straight for slade!

1: Slade Grate
2: Slade Grate... Grr... The mason likes grates...
3. Slade Grate. Same name... I've been savescumming from after the mason starts the project but before they finish. I'm going to see if save scumming from when they are still gathering the mats changes the output.

Grr...  I was under the impression that you could reroll what your artifact was somehow between the initial mooding and the final output. That does not appear to be the case.

It's been my experience that the materials used in the artifact happen the instant the mood strikes. This is why I explicitly said "Before the dwarf moods" for savescumming.
This appears to be correct. So, I need to be neurotic about saving every month or so. Or I can just play normally and hope one of my moods hits the jackpot...

If Slade is treated as stone (which would be expected, since it's generated by mining, is displayed with a stone symbol when mined and stored in stone stockpiles), you'd need to play a mod or mod your own game to allow making weapons of it - stoneworking moods produce stone furniture, stonecrafting moods generate stone 'trader bait' (i.e. crafts, mugs, instruments or toys). Stone weapons just don't happen in vanilla.

Adamantine has material priority for mood base material only for metalsmithing and textile moods and only if you actually have processed and unforbidden adamantine (wafers for metalsmiths, cloth for textile workers); having ten thousand raw adamantine or even extracted strands doesn't count.

As to the grate-liking mason, item preferences restrict mood outcomes; the dwarf will create a preferred item type if possible (may be random choice if more than one preferred type is possible) and only really randomises if they have no preference regarding item type. A mason wouldn't make a hammer/mace anyway, because _those aren't furniture_.

Blah.  Well, there is always plan b, which is haul all of the slade (72 right now, It'll be over 100 by the time I'm done mining it) to the surface, dig a vertical shaft down to the magma sea, buy tickets to the circus and see if all the clowns can survive the rains.

Would it be better to have dwarves garbage pitting the rocks one at a time, or would it be better to put a bunch of rocks on a bridge to retract?

For the record, I currently have 962 querns that I made while leveling masons. I have already destroyed over 400 of them as well.

Dont waste it like that!

Load it in a minecart. Use the minecart to sweep the entry hall from the circus.

10 slade boulders inside a minecart is heavier than even the biggest clown. At terminal velocity? pink pudding party!
