Mike yanks at the panther without remembering to open it's jaws and takes out a large chunk of his shoulder. ( the panther isn't even off yet. it just gives about 2 inches and peels back some skin. ) Mike screams in pain and stabs at the panther repeatedly in the eyes.
(( PS: i actually rolled this! )) [100+20] Mike lands a bunch of lucky stabs and the panther in the eyes. Many of which are very deep jabs. The panther goes completely limp and Mike pulls at the clamped jaws.

The sword just pings off the throat, seeming to be impenetrable.
Or since ninja edits, the panther does indeed go limp but the jaws refuse to move by just Mike's hands.

anyway, [61+18 DEX]and[73+17 SIR] Mike opens the panther's jaws and pushes it off him.

Mike picks up his pistol but when he bends back up, his unarmed hand jerks downward with several holes in his wrist. Mike yells and shoots above his hand. [77+19]

anyway, Mike takes a faithful shot where he thinks he hears padded footfalls.

And there is no panther there. They seem to be gone. A passage has opened up on the wall.
