The encampment, if it could be called that, consisted of a series of metallic tent-like facilities, each one levitating a few millimeters above the ground, with the familiar visual distortions of gravity magic cushioning them. Their skeletal, angular appearance indicated a rather pragmatic design, focused entirely on their designated roles whilst minimizing any unnecessary components. By the looks of their similar appearances and their compartmentalized functional parts, they were manufactured via an automated process, with their homogenous frames assembled irrespective of their eventual functions before being differentiated with having modular components added. Slowly, with almost no noticeable progress, each of them drifted away from the portal, as if pushed by an invisible wind. The circular array of mobile buildings each had a clear icon, indicating its role and facilities. At the center, with a radius exactly half the radius its surrounding formation the rift rested.

It resembled a blackhole, except instead of progressively distorting space-time with proximity, this had an absolute dichotomy. A single, clearly defined event horizon. Everything that passed by it was unperturbed, but everything that entered it simply vanished. No tidal forces ravaged the surrounding landscape. No distorted aura of twisted light heralded its position. It didn't manifest its presence in the manner one would think, it did not simply absorb everything that passed into its abyssal maw. Instead, it operated by majority and recognized cohesion. It did not remove objects particle by particle, they had already tested that. A long stick inserted into it could be removed without issue, if fact, a long enough object can come back out the other side as long as it did not go further than a certain threshold.

That limit was exactly 50%. When even a single particle more than half of an entity enters it, it spontaneously vanishes. No dramatic magical pull. No sudden teleportation. Just outright, instant, disappearance. The aberration was not black. Black is the absence of light. This was not black. This was far darker than black could ever be. All radiation with up to wavelengths of half the diameter of the void simply vanished. Hence, while the center was of near incomprehensible nothingness, the very edges had a dim red light, forming an immeasurably small outline around it. And with every passing instant, this impossibly miniscule boundary expanded by a near equally negligible magnitude... attrition would eventually win out.

It was growing larger. And it didn't seem to be slowing down any time soon.
