Also, after I tried it again with sound and the intro movie turned off, I got an error message that made it more obvious what the error was:
dyld: Library not loaded: /usr/X11R6/lib/libfreetype.6.dylib
  Referenced from: /Applications/Macnewbie/Dwarf Fortress/libs/SDL_ttf.framework/Versions/A/SDL_ttf
  Reason: image not found
to clarify: this happenes after installing xquartz, or before?

@lethosor: Do you think it would make sense to link and bundle freetype6.dylib in the libs directory along with SDL with install_name_tool? Do you know if there are other dependencies that need xquartz?
btw: I'm using SDL 1.2.15 in Macnewbie, not 1.2.13 that comes default. (for the fullscreen fix) Have you tested SDL 2.0+ per chance?

It happened before I installed the new 5/7/2014 version of Xquartz (I had installed the older one for DF2012). Sorry that wasn't clear. Everything is working fine now.

I was just pointing out that I didn't get a helpful error message clueing me into the fact that X11 was the problem until *after* I had disable both sound and the intro movie. Before I did that, the script just seemed to fail for no reason.

Thanks again for all the work you do on this, I probably would not have gotten into DF without you.

@butter: Thx! Afaik soundsense shouldn't cause problem with quartz, as it is a java app, but on 10.8+ I heard that DF itself needs the newer Quartz/X11. So you -should- be able to play with sound after updating Quartz, and the soundsense problem should be a different one that can be solved by upgrading java. Link is in the OP. Let me know if it's not the case...

Yeah, DF and Soundsense work fine after installing Quartz :D My first attempt after installing Quartz was without Soundsense so the game could create whatever folders SS looks at, then I got carried away with the game! Thanks!

Hmm. If you're into ASCII: Taffer and CLA are very nice.
If you're more a graphic kind of guy: Phoebus or Spacefox, although Spacefox has not been updated yet to play nicely with the new trees. But it's a matter of personal taste.

Phoebus is probably the easiest to interpret, but if you ever decide to go back to ascii at some point, you'll feel like a newb again.

Hi!

Does anyone know a !!working!! (more or less) version of Dwarf Therapist that could be used with 40.03?

I have heard that an older version of DT Windows version 0.6.12 works with 40.03.
http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=122968.840

edit: When I launch DT 0.6.12 mac version it says that it doesn't know how to speak with DF because it doesn't support this version of DF, which is a shame. I wonder if for some reason windows version didn't had that error.

Nope. Windows and mac DF has different memory layout, so a working winTherapist doesn't help us in any way. I tried getting it to work, but no luck, has to wait on the professionals.

Brilliant, fricy....I don't suppose you take donations? I already donated to Toady for .40.

I'm running Mac OSX 10.9.3, Java 1.8.0_05, and the latest XQuartz. Dwarf Fortress runs fine, until it crashes when saving after world generation (After you hit ENTER to accept). The crash report is unintelligible compared to most, unless you really want it. Tried it on my other Mac running an older java version, same thing. These Macs ran DF2012 with MacNewbie fine.

(DF also does not recognize saves from older versions, though I don't know if it should or not.)

Thx, but no I don't take donations, you can send it to Toady.

Please keep in mind that 0.40.0x is not a stable build, if you play with it you have to accept the occasional crashes. Until Toady has some time for optimizations generate small words with short history, these tend to be more stable and faster.
The crash is most likely related to some bug in the code, we're still at the beginning of the crash-fixing period. If you find a crash you can reproduce, file a report on the bugtracker, and upload a save to dffd to help Toady fix it.
Save games are not compatible between 0.40.01-0.40.03, but you will be able to load a 40.03 game in 40.04.

Had to clear user settings to get it to work the first time (all the text was gone), but other than that, working great so far, thanks!
