Yes, open the file "df" in the Dwarf Fortress folder with textedit and delete this line:

export DYLD_FORCE_FLAT_NAMESPACE=1

Brilliant, that fixed it, thank you!

I am very new to DF and I was wondering what is the best practice for upgrading from .7 to .8.

Should I download the latest version and move my region folder to the new location and delete the .7 folder?

CameraNerd - yep, that's exactly it.

The only caveat is that I suggest copying rather than moving, and then keeping your 0.7 folder until you've been playing in the new one for a while without any problems.  Backups!  Losing is not much fun when you lose the save instead of the fort...

@CamerNerd: Yes, always backup your region folder first, especially because osx can be pretty aggressive with overwriting files and folders...  After you extracted the pack and copied your region folder(s) into it choose the graphics pack you were using in the previous version and launch the game.

Thanks for the advice everyone.  My two regions migrated flawlessly.   ;D

Anyone know of how to allow DT to commit nicknames? I can add and remove professions, but any nicknames I assign in the app to not write to the game.

This pack is so great it has brought DF back in my life. I just re-posted it to the DF subreddit so more people are aware of it.

Some questions:

  • Is there a way to make dwarf therapist able to set nicknames and custom profession name? It's really a bummer to have to switch back and forth and being unable to completely rely on DT to set your dwarves up
  • Any idea why I get crashes in advanced world gen? With the same world-gen settings in the pure DF download I never get crashes, in this pack I get a crash about every 10 world I generate. No matter the settings. Any one else is having this issue?

@nonobots: Sorry, can't help you with these, you may get an answer for the the first question in the Dwarf Therapist topic, and the advanced worldgen crash is probably dfhack related, but it's impossible to say any more without more information. A workaround can be to use the pure DF to generate a world, then move the save/region folder into MacNewbie to embark when you found a world you like.

Having a little issue with the download link.  Are there any mirrors?

It appears that the Aquifers option is broken.  Once the file with working aquifers is moved to the backup extension, it is never reverted back despite what setting is chosen.

Thx for the feedback, I sent your report to the author of the launcher, I'll include a fix once he figures out the problem.

No... Thank you!  I wouldn't have checked out all the new cool gadgets everyone's been working on without this pack.
