MacNewbie Pack v0.10.3 with DF 42.04
« on: July 23, 2013, 06:11:13 am »

This pack is the spiritual successor to Macnewbie Cyan by iXen.

Windows version: PeridexisErrant's Starter Pack
Linux version: Beautato's Lazy Newb Pack Installer

Important:
OSX 10.7+ is the minimum recommended to play the game.
To use this pack on 10.6 you need to delete Dwarf Fortress/hack/libstdc++.6.dylib. If the trackpad freezes the game you also need to get rid of hack/plugins/multiscroll.plug.dylib.
Stonesense won't work on 10.6.
Players on OSX 10.8+ may need to update XQuartz to launch the game.
If the java utilities like  Soundsense don't work download and install Java from Oracle.

If the launcher can't update your savegames, and your encounter graphical glitches like this, the problem is due to the install logging feature of the launcher. In short, save games now store the installed raw configuration, and without this config file the launcher will ignore these older saves.
To fix this:
  • Install your desired graphics
  • Open finder and navigate to Dwarf Fortress/raws, select 'installed_raws.txt'
  • Copy this configuration file into your save folder's raw directory.
  • Press the 'Update Savegames' button in the launcher to finalize the process.

Version 0.7.2
  • - update to SDL 1.2.15 – fullscreen mode is now possible
    - updated Falconne’s plugins to r31
    - added scripts: fullheal, hire-guard, autofixhandedness, claimsite, forcesiege, pref-adjust, divorce, marry, forumdwarves, log-region
    - added Putnam’s modder scripts v.1.11 (force, itemsyndrome, projectileExpansion, removeRelationships)
    - THISTLEKNOT BRONZE embark profile
    - Spacefox Graphic set
    - misc. init tweaks: temperature OFF; invaders, cave-ins, weather, ON, population cap. set to 80, children cap. set to 10/20%
    - add-spatter plugin removed due to a crash

If you find a keyboard shortcut that does not work as advertised you can change them in the dfhack.init file found in the dwarffortress folder. Please post your results here, I didn't have time to test them all.

Hi!  PTW/say hi/keep up with interesting bits I don't have yet.

I guess it's safe to assume that you're keeping an eye on this?  If it does update soon be sure to test it a lot though, I heard about a lot of bugs when I had the mac version up.

Can I ask where you found the THISTLEKNOT BRONZE embark profile?  I've just got the classic LNP set plus Phoebus for now, but adding plenty more would be awesome.  Is there a central repository for embark profiles?  There should be...

I thought it was abandoned, looks like we'll have a cross-platform GUI after all. Yeah!

Thistleknot posted it in one of the Masterwork forums some time ago. There are a couple of interesting embark profiles in MW, I have not asked Meph's permission yet to use/modify them, but I don't think he'd have a problem with that. There are also a few new 'cheaty' scripts in the new version that could be included in LNP/MNP as well.
Oh, and one more thing: in the Phoebeus Pack in LNP you have an embark profile included that will overwrite the default one after a graphics switch. Is it intentional? I deleted the one in mine.

Yep, I'm looking especially to feature-parity, when we can start requesting stuff we want added to it... like a better mechanic for switching graphics packs that doesn't mess up the settings.  Or an option to hook up eg the batch scripts I worte to GUI buttons.  Or options to launch various stuff minimised/maximised, and so on.  Cross platform support will be a very nice step though.

I looked it up after posting (DL'd this) and I thought it might be - it calls for a bronze anvil which I'm pretty sure is impossible in vanilla.  Some of the cheaty scripts look interesting, some look a little too cheaty; I'll grab some of them - my rule of thumb is just whether I'd use them and the extra-info ones look (potentially) useful.  Probably no keybindings though, I just can't be bothered.

Unintentional - I thought I'd got it before - and deleted in the forthcoming graphics-focussed update.

This is really great!  Is there any way to modify the scroll wheel functionality?  I used to use this to zoom out and see a layout of the entire layer, but it now moved the cursor up and down on the map.

The only way I am able to get SoundSense to work is to enable sound and have the volume turned all the way down.  Is this the correct way to manage this?

Thx for the feedback!

about zooming: I have no idea why, but it's mapped somehow to CTRL-OPTION-4 and CTRL-OPTION-5. :) You can reconfigure it in the keybindings menu, or wait for the next release (SOON) with a new GUI that let's you choose different keybinds.

Soundsense: It does start playing the music after a while, I'll see what I can do to make it better.

EDIT1: The problem is with soundsense-season script not working on macs, so soundsense is waiting for the first season change to choose a music to play, sound effects do play until then. I'll update the .init files to enable sound the way you proposed, this way we will have random music until the first season change.
Fixed by launching the soundsense script from dfhack.init.

« Reply #11 on: August 22, 2013, 11:59:00 am »

Hi!

Great work with this, but one or two questions: Is there any reason why this (or, more specifically, DFHack) wouldn't work with OSX 10.6.8? I'm having problems getting it to run when the "export DYLD_INSERT_LIBRARIES=./hack/libdfhack.dylib" line is included in the df script. If I exclude that line, df loads up perfectly, though, I imagine, DFHack functionality is not available. Any ideas?

Thanks!

Edit #1: Gosh, nevermind. Just as I hit submit on this I found a related bug report, with a fix.

https://github.com/peterix/dfhack/issues/179

"DYLD_FORCE_FLAT_NAMESPACE has to be off for 10.6.8."

I can confirm that DF now loads, though I haven't tried doing anything yet. I will leave this comment (and fix) here in case any other Snow Leopards hit the same roadblock I did.

@worthyhatchet: Thx, noted, I'll fix it in the next version.
Can you test this on 10.6.8? It should work this way.

Code: [Select]
#!/bin/sh
PWD=`dirname "${0}"`
#thanks to Iriel for figuring this out
OSREV=`uname -r | cut -d. -f1`
if [ "$OSREV" -ge 11 ] ; then
    export DYLD_INSERT_LIBRARIES=./hack/libdfhack.dylib
    export DYLD_LIBRARY_PATH=${PWD}/hack:${PWD}/libs:${PWD}/stonesense/deplibs
    export DYLD_FRAMEWORK_PATH=${PWD}/hack:${PWD}/libs
    export DYLD_FORCE_FLAT_NAMESPACE=1
else
    export DYLD_INSERT_LIBRARIES=./hack/libdfhack.dylib
    export DYLD_FALLBACK_LIBRARY_PATH=${PWD}/hack:${PWD}/libs
    export DYLD_FALLBACK_FRAMEWORK_PATH=${PWD}/hack:${PWD}/libs
fi
cd "${PWD}"; ./dwarfort.exe

Is there anyway I can correct this myself? Really wanted to try this out. Damn this 10.6.8!

Yes, open the file "df" in the Dwarf Fortress folder with textedit and delete this line:

export DYLD_FORCE_FLAT_NAMESPACE=1
Pages: [1] 2 3 ... 34
