I learned something that surprised me.

Of the 126 games I've bought on Steam, I've only paid more than $20 for about 13 of them. 14 if you count money I put in my Steam wallet for Warframe.

According to Steam it was Vegas Make it Big on Christmas day 2007, which is weird because I was on a little FOB in Iraq without internet then. Odd.

It says I have made 358 purchases, which I think is lower than it actually is, maybe multiple titles in a purchase counts as 1?

BTW, great thread!

How do you tell what was first and when you signed in?

Click your name in the upper right of the window and select "Account Details." In all likelihood, I doubt your first transaction date will be shown if you didn't make that purchase from Steam itself.

For  instance, I know for a fact that my first Steam game was Half Life 2. That does show as the first item in my list of licenses. The first transaction on my account, however, is Unreal Tournament 2004, on Aug 26, 2008.

There's more weirdness in the list as well, such as GMod being listed as "Complimentary" despite me purchasing it from the client. There are several more items that look like they're missing altogether.

The Secret of the Monkey Island: Special Edition.
It is also the second-most expensive item I have purchased, with the first place going to Civilization V Gold edition for 10€.

Counting the total, I have paid 175,07€ to Steam within three years, in exchange for 87 games, of which about 66% are indie.

Thanks a bunch for this.
I got Steam with the Orange Box, though I activated my retail copy of Half Life 1 at the same time (which was somehow counted as platinum (blue shift + opposing force edition), despite being a single orange HL1 CD off amazon some years prior).

I didn't buy much more until Audiosurf, and then I was hooked.  Darwinia, Super ID Software Pack, The Wonderful End of the World... wow, not really the way I remember it.
I do know that Left 4 Dead is what got my brother and my best friend to join me on Steam, and we've been shamelessly consuming ever since.

Kinda surprised to see so many people who entered via Terraria.  Cool though!  I hope yous picked up the HL series too at some point   ;D

Oh, interesting. My first game on Steam was Magicka, which didn't work because the game ran way to slow. Afterwards was Civ V, which was a physical CD that I bought, but forces you to activate a key and download the game from Steam, because why would we actually include a game on a CD? That's just silly!

Space Empire V on June 9th 2009.

I've only spent more than $20 twice, once for $21 and another for $30, both buying more than one for that price - on average prices costing $10 per game, many times far less.

(not to derail this cool thread idea, but including the game on a disk bypasses most of the download afaik.  In which case Steam is mostly just DRM, and an excellent social gaming hub imho.)

My first game was Terraria. But what REALLY got me into steam was the Paradox complete pack, which, during the summer sale gave me almost all the paradox games for 40 bucks...... So worth it. I STILL play mount & blade and Europa Universalis III.

Empire: Total War, March 2009. Bought it on gamersgate, didn't read the fine print. Raged at having to instal steam. It wasn't until after Civ 5 and Shogun Total War, that I actually bought a game on steam in april 2011 and stopped hating it.
