iirc, Notch started Minecraft as an attempt to make a simplified 3D DF, and actually attempted to recruit at least one of our forumites (i'll let you guess who, only clue is they're currently active) as a staff member.

Anyhow, it's great for Notch to advertise DF. The guy is a genius and has a great reach, and DF definitely needs more players, so let's just try and be as much welcoming to newcomers as usual.

True, publicity is publicity and the people who don't want to spend time to learn will likely drop out. Dwarf Fortress' difficulty offset is pretty much a filter for the lazy people out there.

News update: creator of one of my favorite games dislikes mine. Tears everywhere.

Toady, ofc. Toady dislikes Minecraft because it's got that abusive gameplay aspect to it, if I remember what Toady said right.

Well good on Notch for recommending DF. I haven't played Minecraft but it's made a lot of people happy and you can't really argue with that. I hope a bunch of them come over and give DF a try, it's free! You can't argue with that either.
