wow, thats awesome.  I was fooling around recently with an open source remake of starflight, but this looks much more entertaining.

This intro video does not get too much into gameplay, but it gives a little taste:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lmEe7W_WubY

Oh, I remember hearing about that - it's kind of like spaceship SS13, right?

How is the playability of that? :)

Open Alpha so feel free to try it out yourself, it is playable but right now it's like ship death arena where you create a ship and then have to clear off waves of enemies but it has high expectations and something that seems like a persistant universe I think, looks pretty exciting though and has some interesting technique for dealing with piracy.

X-Rebirth now has more official info and a release date. Not sure how it'll be about crew, though.

I do like the walking around the cockpit thing, but I'm worried that might just wind up being a short lived gimmick...

Spacewalks to fix damage.

I can dream.

Also, X4 [or whatever this is considered] looks beautiful.

i didnt expect a release date out of nowhere for this year, but it is a "must buy" for me since their first "release date" ... when was it? 2010? 2011?.
i guess this will be the game that makes me get a new windows too, as it doesnt seem to run on 32 bit win xp... (i kind of expected that it wouldnt run on it anymore anyways)
and it will probably eat away months of time....................

I... wow. I haven't played a space sim since Privateer, and I suddenly must have this. Must. Have.

And then, they will be weaponized. Like everything in this game, from kittens to babies, everything is a potential device of murder.
So if baseless speculation is all we have, we might as well treat it like fact.

I'm not sure if this has been mentioned yet, but I found something that FTL geeks would enjoy on Kickstarter. Sadly, it doesn't have a lot of backing yet, but it looks really good thus far.
