How far across is the room? If it's short enough, I suggest we tie my rope to our end, then I use my exceptional dexterity to traverse the beam (unless my Climb Wall skill can be used to move safely along the edges) and tie the rope to the other end to help the rest of your doughnuts across. Then I can move back to retrieve the rope and such.

Why did I take 13 damage from opening a door?

Sounds like as good a plan as any. But first...

Test the ability of the floor to the left to hold my weight. Jump up and down slightly near the stable floor to make sure the middle can hold my weight.

The floor on the left crumbles as you poke on it. The middle creaks and groans a bit.

Wait! Before we do anything obvious, let's remember that this is a 1st Ed module and the GM not only wants to kill us, but have entered a contract with the Nine Princes of Hell to do his best at every possible time.

So let's try the not so obvious first. Throw the rope out onto where the floor should be to see if the hole is an illusion. I don't let go of my end, of course. That would be silly.

The floor/hole is not an illusion, unless it's an incredibly good illusion created by an illusionist actively observing your progress and altering his illusion accordingly.

I sit down, very carefully, and shuffling forward on my bottom, place my foot on the possibly-illusory floor.

I boldly walk forward.

On which path? Unless you want me to interpret that in the least favourable way, you'd better tell me.

No! Don't tell him! It would be hilarious to see you walk into open air!
...Wait! Do tell him! When you die, I want to be able to loot your bodies and take your uncast spells!

It's fine until halfway across, when a beam shifted and the entire side slides off into the cellar. You take 12 damage and are now in a lightless cellar, seperated from the party, and have made a great deal of noise.

You light your lantern. Easy enough. It's ruined, burned out, with lots of plaster dust in the air around you. A veritable mini-maze.

Since I can't think of anything else we can try right now, I'm going to either: Use my Climb Wall skill to climb over the latter half of the right path (where scrapheap fell through).

Or, if that isn't how the Climb Wall skill works, I'm going to try and balance my way over the middle path.

In either case, I first tie the rope to the south side and then to myself, so the other guys can pull me back up if I fall down.

THe climb walls skill totally works like that, but the middle path is wide enough you wouldn't need to balance.
