Start growing a beard of sorrow.

Leave the city to its fate

We already have a beard. We can call it a 'beard of sorrow' if it makes you happy.Pun intended

We are Lord Protector, but how we choose to interpret that, (who and what we protect), is probably up to us at this point.

You are Lord Protector that means that you are to reign the Kingdom in the Emperors stead till he comes of Age...that also means you are to PROTECT the Emperor. It is your Duty to rescue the Emperor and if hes dead find a replacement from the Family but as long as there is a chance that he is alive you ahve to save him, all else would see you hanged for Treason the moment it becomes clear you ran like Brave Sir Robin when danger reared its head...

but its not my position to judge, if you want to run go ahead, but you have to deal with the ugly consequences...

Great.
Stealthily make our way into the city to find our beloved emperor, whom, for some inexplicable reason created a Lord Protector who was far from him at a time of great need. I'm sure it's because he values our skills, loyalty, and wisdom above all others.

I can see how the last one died. Tell the elves to head north, have our loyal men to say their prayers and try to break through their lines, attacking targets of opportunity (like catapults) along the way. We have to get in before they know we're behind them. Seeing as how it hasn't been mentioned, I assume there are no stealthy ways in.

Are there many more rails after this?

Better hope there are more rails. We're kinda high up, and the end of the line could kill us.

Well, only in death does duty end, and we didn't seem happy to get this title...

Investigate if the city walls still have siege engines in operable state. If yes, tell the elves and five of your men to operate them.

-1 to trying to get the shell-shocked/broken elves to fight or operate heavy machinery. They'll get themselves (or us) killed.

You free the elves and set the camp on fire, its all tainted by the Demonspawn anyway. Now you have three hundred half starved naked Elves to take care of...great.

300 Starving Elves (Useless)

Let's let the elves go fend to themselves. They are "useless" after all. If any volunteer, use them. If not, whatever. We have an Emperor to defend.
