I'm going off the first LaFotM's canon, in which everyone exploded because of the meta.

In my head-canon, Richard was the only survivor, but lost his memories of LaFOTM v1 and Personae. Hence the power reset.

And then stuff happened that caused him to remember EVERYTHING. Which...sort of broke him. Apart from the whole Camille dying thing.
