The Capital City is burning.
The homes of tens of thousands of citizens are consumed by the flames as the streets turn into rivers of blood of the sides of this particular civil war in this particular part of the continent, the afternoon sun hiding behind the dark, grey clouds.
The old dynasty of Kreuzfallech withered out and the only remnant of it is the current King, six years old Karl Wilhelm IV, surrounded by a group of squabbling, cowardly advisors. But the dynasty long ago lost the Heavenly Signet. On the south, rebellion started, the peasantry and local landowners supporting Joachim Sturendertz, a pious knight, who discovered the Heavenly Signet in the chapel at his keep. And as the old tradition of the Weserian dynasty says: the true and legitime ruler of the kingdom is the one who holds the Heavenly Signet, and there can be no one other usurping the throne.
The rebellion have spread all the way to the north, to the very capital city. The flames of revolt and new times consume the city as the soldiers of both Revolutionaries and Loyalists fight to death on the street, fighting for their lords, fighting for the future of the kingdom.
It has come to that: the Revolutionaries have got to the Franz Starzer Plaza, a large courtyard just outside the Kreuzfallech castle gates. As the city behind them is burning, the supporters of King Sturendertz roar in unity, as the Loyalists draw their weapons and make a stand to protect their little king, to preserve the dynasty that was on the throne for six hundred years of peace and prosperity.
