The reasons listed don't apply. My dwarves dine on the finest dead kittens and rotten mushroom juice. Everyone has a job and a room larger than 1x3x1. Children learn useful skills like pain tolerance and a sociopathic dispositions towards death. Here in Nutsdangled, we strive for prosperity and excellence in fields both practical and intangible. I guess the goblins are just jealous, but too shy to ask for lessons.

Anyway, Toady once mentioned goblins as all lacking good feelings and altruism. The question I'm raising is how they'd go about raising children since there's little reason to give much care to younglings. I'm fascinated by the in-game cultures, so I'd love to have the various societies fleshed out.

If they're lacking good feeling and altruism, then all one'd have to do is ask what one without empathy would do.

Well, I suppose not much different, really. Probably more abuse and more projected ambition or raised to cult-like obediance, depending on the invidual in question.

Then again, love is pretty hard to define. Is it pride in something, is it intimacy, or is it something that can be used to see others as inferior :D

What if they're the celebrities of their cities, and they're adopting Dwarf children for the same reasons?

That's it!  Goblins are a diabolical cross between Angelina Jolie and David Koresh!  It all makes sense now!

I've heard that due to being lower demons, you're kind of fucked when the demon kings show up and you can't rebel even if you wanted too (which may be doubtful, given goblin society). On the other hand, Goblins got out of hell in greater numbers and often well away from the demons, so they may not entirely appreciate the setup. Making your society that much harder to break through Dwarven stupidity, human egotism and ELVES all raised by their fellow apathetic sadistic sociopaths overlords is a smart move, and likely still useful in peacetime through their array of skills, handy replacements for nihilistic leaders and cultural dispatches.

Yes, they're multicultularists.
