The first picture reminds me of One Piece, especially of the beginning of the story when Luffy's crew is small and they're sailing on the small ship. Well done, sir.
Is this picture a screenshot of the beginning of the game?

For the 2nd picture I really like the sky. Nice, calm and stary. :)

Hey guys!

I decided to post a new screenshot and explain abit what we have in mind with it.

As you can see i have completly remade the STATS system for the pirates, because the old one was not really working well in my prototyping, so i went into more familiar RPG Stat system, and i must say that its working much much better!

You see, there is 6 basic stats STR,VIT,INT,DEX,AGI and LUCK. VIT will increase hitpoints, STR increases damage and so on... Different stat combinations will affect pirates performance on the ship and are now more tied together rather than isolated stats that server 1 thing like cooking from the old system. This is not ascending final system but its alot closer to the final than the old one.

Stupid obligatory question: how do I increase 'Luck'? :P

As funny as it sounds currently your LUCK increases when you have HUNTER Class on your pirate, (Hunters also FISH, so LUCK is somewhat essential in that profession :D)

figher,cook,hunter,carpenter,sailor,cannoner,navigator -> Navigator,Cannoner & Hunter get LUCK on levelup.

We've seen videos with lots and lots of pirates. It feels like having these many stats for too many pirates might become a bit too complicated to actually handle. Or will you be able to have a squad that has mostly strength, another that has mostly agility/dexterity, and use them in different occasions?

There are groups, if you look at the last screenshot closely, you can seen below the logo there are icons, sword, apple. those are class icons, that are in fact groups. And each group has different tasks, so in reality all you will have to do is decide where to put your fresh pirates based on their initial talent or shortage. So no, it wont become complex. trust me on this one.

example:

You have a pirate who has very good dex, str, agi. You will have to decide only 1 thing, what group he belongs to, figher or cook. if you make him cook he will be very good cook, but if you make him figher you will have to wait abit before he becomes good in  that profession because fighers need vitality. so he will get it as he levels up with that class. Once, your pirate has enough vitality... you might decide to change his group to carpenters. Carpenters need vitality when there is a battle, and you need someone to repair hulls during battle and endure cannon damage. It will require plans, but once he belongs to group its easy.

Allrighty, it's been long enough since I last popped on.

Update, we've been SUPER hard at work on gameplay progression, now it's not just a series of loose modules, you can actually start and end a game, albeit with limited content.

Here are some screenies :D

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Some of the new sea life on a fresh game.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Mousing over to the tavern, I can hire pirates using my limited supply of money, I use it to equip them, as well as purchase food and new blocks for my ship.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
I start building my ship using the purchased blocks

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
It ends up looking like this.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
I plot a course on the large world map, each red blip is a possible SEA encounter, with GREEN being islands.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
A small enemy ship! As neither of us have cannons, we proceed to board them and loot their ship!

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Here we are grappling onto them, once dead we can loot them, get more pieces and money and essentially build up my crew!
