We all know dwarves are not the brightest creatures. But occasionally there is that one dwarf out of all the others that dose something so stupid its awesome.

So what is the most stupidly awesome thing that you have witnessed in dwarf fortress.

TWO dwarves, not one but two, both managed to get stuck on the same spot between the river and a pond by two trees that sprung up on either side of them (or they decided to stand next to one just as the second grew). Was tempted to let them die but that sort of stupidity had to be rewarded by freedom. After letting them almost starve though.

This happened about two weeks ago:

Lever-puller for goblin-mashing corridor goes on break, causing a group of gobbos to get through. No big deal, they just end up in cage traps instead.

My dorfs take their sweet time clearing and resetting the cage traps, when suddenly the trap corridor is turned on again. Yep, the lever-puller has just come off break and done the job I ordered him to do about a month ago. I turn it off again...and spot a single goblin running for his life.

Turns out an ambush party had been sneaking into my fort. They would have run straight into the civilian dorfs working on the cagetrap chamber if not for the sudden activation of a lot of stabby pointy things. Lives were saved because I've got a dorfy Homer Simpson at the controls...

Probably when some a couple of dwarves decided to stay outside during a minotaur attack, despite the alert being set. It was only when the minotaur reached them that finally they decided to run (the military were still exiting the fortress at this point). Realising that he could not outrun the beast, some random fisherdwarf turned round and kicked it in the leg, breaking its bone and making it fall to the ground. This gave the other dwarves the time they needed to escape, and gave the military the advantage they needed to kill it. Unfortunately, the minotaur had enough time to rip the fisherdwarf's sock off and beat him to death with it.

As mentioned in the previous turn, the most exciting field of battle this year will be in the Arstotzkan capitol, with plenty of close-quarter fighting and siege warfare.  Arstotzka, accordingly, spent their design phase developing a high-altitude tactical bomber.

Thirsty Dwarf Miner travels from 2nd cavern layer rockface up the mineshaft, through the fort, round the long way round the entrance onto the surface, avoids the designated water source, enters waterway channel climbs/swims up into the brewery/farm (normally accessed from the fort directly). Dies.

2nd Dwarf Tantrum!!!

I was watching since he was my only pick miner at the time and was getting annoyed at slow work.

Some idiot walling himself out in a fb infested cavern then having the iron balls not to freak out, deconstruct the wall he'd just built, and then rebuild it from the right side.

All without being webbed, smashed and eaten. I was impressed.

As a new player, I'm not sure if this counts, but my wardorf squad all seem to refuse to wear armor on their left foot. An odd show of solidarity (though as far as I know, no one has lost a left foot)? Or just plain dorf supidity? I can't tell.

PS: Great Armok! I have to question my sanity now that I've learned to play this game. At night, all I can think of is how to build the perfect fortress, and in the morning, I worry if my dorfs will make it though the day. Excuse me, but I think I feel a strange mood coming on.

I can calm and reassure when I say that, don't worry, that will never ever go away. Been playing for 6 years, since .21, and sometimes I still am kept awake at night.

The militia commander hacks The Elf Merchant in the lower body with his (-<<bismuth bronze battle axe>>-) and the severed part sails off in an arc!
That was the one and only combat report, so much for some live combat training.

Don't listen to a word I say, I am completely insane.
Does that mean you shouldn't listen to my pervious sentence and infact listen to everything I say?
