Mechanic has been killed by a trap.

My mechanic has just been killed by his own stonefall trap. It was quite strange. I have a theory as to why this would happen but some things just don't add up. As you can see from the picture my map has loathsome muck. This rain causes blisters everywhere and immediate unconsiousness. It is quite annoying. I would guess that unconsciousness removed the dwarves' trapavoid tag and caused the trap to fire, however, there is no loathsome muck on the dwarf or anywhere around him. Is my hypothesis the most likely answer or is there something else going on?

That is why it killed him. If someone passes out or gets webbed, regardless of what it is, will be vulnerable to traps. Now why did he pass out ? That I cant answer.

if the trap was triggered by a pressure plate you may have set the weight parameter to be to sensitive

No it is just an ordinary stone-fall trap. I think it is because he went unconscious but I don't know how.

In the log it says "Mechanic cancels load stone trap: Unconsious"

This. Have you established how communicable the Muck's syndrome is? He might have drunk from a contaminated water supply, which wouldn't show up as any liquid covering.

He could have started work while exhausted, and not had a bed available to path to. That would cause him to sleep on the floor... sometimes, they sleep right on the spot they were working at.

If i remember right, it says this when dwarfs fall asleep during a task which is usually triggered by them not having a bed to sleep in.

Look at the freqency of him passing out in the log. I don't call that merely bedding down on the spot. That's some kind of syndrome. Possibly from horrible rain.

It is from the muck. Some pass out, some die, some nothing. And it seems spreadable, even to people who don't have it on them. Same thing on my map.

If the dwarf goes unconscious on a trap due to a syndrome, the trap will trigger on the dwarf. Dwarves don't have [TRAPAVOID]. Dwarves will refuse to sleep on trapped floors, so a room containing adequate fresh food and drink with a completely trapped floor can drive normal dwarves insane due to sleep deprivation.

Urist McDwarf recently lost his bed due to a tantrum and bedded down on a weapon trap. The next morning his corpse was found impaled by 10 candy spears. His family learned from this experience and from then on took care to not sleep on traps anymore. When asked about their uncle who was killed when he ran in the opposite direction of the safety of the fort during an invasion, they responded by stating "That was an isolated incident. No way that could happen again."
