I sort of took over the game.
Meh. I'm too lazy to put as much detail as you do into how the troops are laid out and such. I haven't the faintest idea if it really makes all that much difference either way, so long as our goals and intentions are clear.

Then I suggest just saying that the command squad and all flak vested guardsmen are assigned along with the anti armor units.

Leave the leather armored units to help the engineers with the wall since that needs to be completed fast.

Quick question - what's the state of the redoubts? Just in the turn you mentioned the leman russ concentrating fire on them (and presumably destroying them), and then talk about fighting on from the relative safety of the redoubts.

That was the first trench line, we abandoned it to fall back to the second line so they're perfectly fine.

So the plan for the next line then putting everything together is thus as far as I can see.

Basalisk are to open fire on enemy tanks, once they are destroyed or to close to fire on safely redirect fire onto the canyon walls in an attempt to collapse it and block the pass. Mortars to mass fire on the enemy trench to cause as many casualties as possible. 2 of them are to focus on destroying the enemy bridges to prevent enemy vehicles advancing.

Scouts are to do what they can from long range to kill those laying the bridge.

Place all flak armored guardsmen, command squad units and anti armor units in the second line. Place the auto cannons on the redoubts to be seen then pull them out the moment the enemy advances.
The infantry and anti armor are to hold position long enough to wipe out the enemy armor, or until they begin taking significant casualties then pull out to the third line.

If the enemy advances command squad is to focus fire on enemy world eaters as are the scouts. All anti armor equipment is to be recovered if units die by guardsmen around them when they retreat.

(( I don't think I missed anything. ))

You hastily have your comm officer send the orders to reorganize the defense on the second trench line, and to lay out the battle plan before the enemy can begin to make a move. As the Hydra Tanks move into cover behind the bunkers, leveling their guns at the far trench before falling silent, soon after that your anti-tank squads pick up. You watch as the entire front of the enemy's armor column goes up in flames and dust, the combined fire of Basilisks, Heavy Mortars, Autocannons, and Missile Launchers tears the stalled column to bits leaving smoking tank corpses and craters in its wake. With the enemy abandoning the majority of their armor at the first trench you order to the heavy weapons back to set up in the third trench line.

The now solid mass of cultists charges forward across the open ground, swathes of them evaporate as they set off the caches of mines you placed all throughout the space. Your men begin to trade fire with the charging cultists who get cut down quickly beneath the massed fire of your men, as you fire over the lip of the trench bringing down three cultists who had worked their way ahead of the charge a pair of the troopers beside you drop down into the trench. Looking down you see their upper bodies to be a ruined mess, the distinctive pattern of bolter rounds evident as you scrounge a handful of power packs off their corpses and murmur a prayer that their souls reach the Emperor's side.

Swapping power packs you order the surviving men in your section of the trench back towards the redoubt, running underneath the blazing barrels of one of the Hydras you barely avoid the autogun fire that kills the men behind you, some survive screaming in pain but you have no choice but to push on. The rest of your trip to the redoubt is a blur, at one point you vaguely remember Commissar-General Kalman standing on the edge of the trench with a Bolt Pistol in one hand and a laspistol in the other blazing away into the ranks of the closing enemies. By the time you arrive at the redoubt the retreat to the third trench line has begun, you can tell the battle is nearing its end, but so far your not sure whether you'll live to see the battles end.

Its not long before you're pulling back through the tunnel preparing for the final defense that will decide how this battle ends ...

Is that wall ready yet?

Also are those wounded all to bad to fight? Or are some of them walking wounded?

All artillery fire at will, drive the enemy back or kill them all.

Give a speech about how our victory is at hand and how we have the emperors favor.

Take flak armor from the wounded and give it to leather armored troops, place all remaining infantry into the trenches, put the auto cannons on the side redoubts in equal numbers, have the engineers keep working on the wall until the enemy attack then they're to man as much of the wall as is complete and open fire on the enemy, any walking wounded are to join them.
Have the anti armor on the side redoubts then focus fire on the enemies elite units. ( Commanders, World eaters and so on. )
Command battalion in the center as normal.
Open fire the moment the enemy is in range, use every weapon we have left.
Move the armor forward to provide additional fire.

If we have any battle stims or anything to keeps people alert now is the time to use it.

Damn. We've lost, what, almost 20 infantry squads now?

To the third trench! All of our men be ready! Hold fire until you can see the reds of their knives! KILL THE HERETICS!

FOR THE EMPEROR!

Hah, pretty much what I did RP :) Except I even included the wounded and the engineers :).

Hey Adwarf, is cultists all they've got left? Do they have any anti armor weapons?

I wanted our artillery to wait until they were in the best firing range possible too, then let loose with a volley followed up by firing at will. Maybe not for mortars. Hydras should wait though.

Our anti-tank crews should use lasguns unless they see a tank, and thus should be near their weapons, but using their secondary, anti infantry, weapons, or any weapons of the wounded that did not survive.

You can see a handful of surviving halftracks and a few World Eaters scattered among the Chaos forces but for the most part its just a solid tide of cultists you're seeing.

Order the autocannon teams to concentrate fire on the halftracks before moving on to the world eaters and then the cultists.
Have the AT teams fire on the world eaters, then halftracks, then cultists, switching to frag missiles for the cultists if possible.

Use frag grenades when the enemy charge is closing in.

Been spying on this out of curiosity.  Know very little about Warhammer though.  Just wanted to ask...how LOYAL are we to the Emperor?  You make it sound like we're the first squads from our planet EVER.  Have we been conquered long enough for all of our men to firmly believe the Emperor is a god or do we all secretly still follow native gods?  Just something that might add flavor later on...or an inquisition.

You are indeed the first regiments founded from your homeworld but (as most planets and people) you are quite loyal to the Emperor, even those who have been out of the Imperium's grasps for decades or centuries still worship the God Emperor so long as they haven't fallen to Chaos or some foul Xeno threat.
