Can we do a MGS2 things and have guards reporting in activity every 5 min's or something? i think it's better to be safe/cautious than dead/ambushed.

As you exit the Chimera you find Ralph, captain of the scout battalion, waiting outside taking a puff from a lho stick brunt nearly down to the nub. Seeing you the captain tosses the stub aside and plods over, his feet sinking a good half a foot into the snow with every step though the man seems not to mind in the slightest. He coughs heavily as he falls into step next to you, it takes a moment to die down but when it does he speaks up,

"Fething cold is killing me, can't wait to get going underground since its likely to be a few degrees warmer then this sub zero pile of snow. I hope you don't mind, but I've already got the majority of the scout forces forming up, you just gotta pick which squads you want to tag along other then the scouts I choose out.

Also that Cadet, Malkom or something, is looking for ya. Apparently Kalman knew you'd take the mission the entire time and sent him after you for some reason or another, and that's about all I got to report. I'll be with the vanguard when you are ready to depart ..."

With that Ralph breaks away from you, his feet crunching in the pale white snow as he drags another lho stick from his jacket and lights it. You vaguely here him mumble something about the damned cold as he moves towards the gathering of salamanders and bikes at the mouth of the tunnel, you are quickly brought to your senses when you bump into something. You hear someone let out a small squeak as a small cloud of snow billows up towards you, looking down at where the noise came from you find the Cadet Commissar flat on his ass in the snow.

Malkom quickly starts blustering out an apology as you help him to his feet and you find yourself giving him a quizzical look. The young man's face turns a faint shade of pink as he realizes what he is doing and looks away for a moment, it takes only a few more seconds for him to explain he has something to tell you and you respond by telling him to walk with you to the vanguard. Nodding his head you both set out into the snow ...

The first minute or so of the walk is filled with an awkward silence only broken by the distant sounds of vehicles starting up or the crunch of their feet sinking into the snow. Malkom suddenly stops and you are forced to stop and turn towards him in turn, the kid looks up into your eyes and for the first time you realize something is off about him. Looking at him you see a faint fog hazing his eyes and turning them a light shade of grey not to mention as you look him in the eye it feels as if something is clawing its way slowly into you mind.

Jerking your head away you see a faint smile cross his face as he speaks up,

"As you can probably tell, I'm actually partially blind in both eyes, no clue why but I've been like this since I've born but even being blind I can see everything clearly. It wasn't until I met Kalman, and he explained everything to me that I realized how I can still see perfectly. According to Kalman I actually have a small amount of psiconic activity, not enough to be qualified as an actual psyker but just enough to make me different.

I fill in the things I can't see well by reaching out and feeling for it apparently, I don't know how or why I do it I just do. We also discovered about a year and a half back I can sense psykers, or psiconic activity vaguely though thats an incident I'd rather not go into."

The Cadet pauses and pulls a lho stick from his glove along with a lighter, lighting it he takes a long drag before finishing,

"I always need one of theses damn things when I'm nervous. Anyway, now you know my secret Mordecai, what do you got to say? Are you gonna send me off to the Blackships, kill me with your own hands for betraying the God Emperor, or surprise me with a completely different reaction?"

Looking at him now all you see is a smug little brat, not a hint of the fact that he is just a baby step beneath a psyker yet now knowing the fact that he is you feel a chill run down your spine as you ponder his question ...

Bring the entire scout force, send one squad out ahead to check for traps and have the rest form up 2 squads in front 2 behind of the main force.

" Keep it to yourself and use that gift of yours to help me keep my men alive and I have no problems with you Malkom. "

(( Nice I'm glad this is back. ))

Another heavy weapons squad and another flamer squad would be a nice addition, preferably in Salamanders. If is can't happen, two heavy weapons squads, a flamer squad, an anti-tank squad, and an infantry squad should be in a transport half-track. Emperor I wish we had some Leman Russes or Sentinels. If the supply vehicle works how I think it does, I'd like a second one. Nine infantry squads and five engineer squads with one of the Trojans can set up quick barricades and secure areas to our rear/make sure no one comes up from behind without us knowing it. With them should probably be three transport half-tracks and a supply half-track. The extra capacity will be filled by 3 field medics and 7 orderlies. When at all possible, units should be from Volgar; the melee weapons will help more than knowing how to survive in environments we aren't currently in. Speaking of which, I'd like our two Volgar Scout units with us too.

Then, once all troops are together, we move up. Three of the scout biker units(one from Volgar) are to go ahead first, scouting and reporting back as we move. Behind them will be the anti-tank and flamer (and possibly heavy weapons) Scout Salamanders, as well as Ralph's. Behind them will be two more scout bikers(one from Volgar) and the other Scout Salamanders, if the Ministorum Priests approve. Behind them will be our Command Chimera and the half-tracks, not because we don't want to lead from the front, but because we're slower. Finally, the last two scout bikers will take up a rear-guard position and ensure we are not flanked. If we come to splits or tunnels, we will not move forward until it has been explored and if necessary, cleansed. Usually, we will have the scout salamanders and bikers explore the tunnels, leaving three of the scout biker units behind to continue patrols, as well as one of the Ministorum priest salamanders, to ensure morale is kept should we be attacked. If we were able to get more scout salamanders for the heavy weapons and flamer squads, one of the heavy-weapons squads will stay behind.

Oh yeah, and as for Malkom, begin laughing at the incredulity of it. "A Cadet Commissar? With any psyker ability whatsoever? That's something the Emperor himself must have done, for you to be lucky enough to not only have survived, but become a Commissar. I mean...God-Emperor, that's amazing and yet ridiculous. I think He is working to add some humor to our grim times. No, Malkom, you haven't betrayed the God-Emperor as far as I'm aware. You're a bloody Commissar, after all! As long as you keep doing your duty to the God-Emperor and the Imperium's Shield, you have my trust. In fact, I'd like you to use that ability when you can to see if any blasphemous wretches lie in wait for our men, possibly hiding themselves with the Warp. You're a Commissar after all; if you feel you're being corrupted, I know you'll take the proper measures."

(( Adwarf do we have any space left in vehicles? Because we don't want people on foot they'd be far to slow. Uhm dude we only have 5 scout bike squads and your counting 7. Also why 3 squads to scout ahead? It only takes 1 squad to do it.))

We have seven. Five from Salix, two from Volgar. And if you read what I actually typed, the people I asked for aren't on foot, they're in half-tracks. Three squads for defense purposes(more likely for someone to survive to make it back here if they're ambushed, too) and to be more efficient with trap-finding/enemy-spotting, since they can do so faster.

The halftracks are staying with the main column, the only forces you guys can take are those that can fill the scout salamanders and the chimera and the scout squads with bikes.

(( Yea thats why I asked if we had any space left in any of our vehicles. So we know if we can fit any more men.

My bad on scouts but 3 squads to scout a ahead is just a waste of men and more likely to trigger any traps if chaos beat us here, it's a tunnel anyway we'll hear it if anything happens, gunfire or explosions echo a long way in an enclosed space. ))

There isn't anymore space available in the transports so you can't fit any more squads any. Also the next update will be tomorrow.

If we can't bring anything else why did he say we needed to pick which forces were going along with us in addition to those?

Because you guys picked what guys to take after the commander told you to, its just in game terms you had yet to choose the troops when he talked to you after you'd left the chimera.

You tell Malkom your thoughts and ask him to use his power to help better serve the Emperor for him to survive this long was surely his doing, in reply the Cadet Commissar snorts a laugh,

"I doubt that very much Colonel, a cripple is of little use the Emperor when his sole strength is weak and easily overshadowed by any other with even an ounce of talent. But who knows, maybe he just wanted a cripple to play the part of the martyr and the jester."

Turning away with a chuckle the Cadet walks off towards a nearby halftrack smoking the lho stick nearly burnt down to the nub, you watch him walk off pondering his words before turning and making your way out to the vanguard convoy beyond. You are met halfway by your personal guard, a group of ten soldiers all of Volgar origin and the best of the best in your entire regiment, they salute you before falling into a box formation around you.

By the time you arrive the vanguard has already formed up, two squads of scouts to the front, two tailing behind the center, and the fifth split between the sides of the armored convoy. Soon after that you clamber aboard the chimera Malkom and another squad of soldiers already loaded in and ready for departure, nodding to you the Cadet keeps his head down towards the floor of the vehicle while one of your bodyguard clambers up through a hatch to man the heavy bolter on top of the chimera. Its a few more minutes of sullen silence broken only by the occasional joke from the troopers arrayed around you, looking around you take in the faces of the men with you, the men who would likely die with you if it came to it.

The faces you see are somewhat saddening, a little under a year earlier these men had looks of pride and joy on their faces at the prospect of fighting in the Emperor's name, but now already many had turned sour. Those proud faces were already replaced by cold heartless stares, feigned happiness, and even tinges of fear, in a single warzone that lasted little more then a month your people had been changed so greatly. The thought of what would happen as the war progressed stuck with you as the vanguard force roared to life and began to rumble down the tunnel heading for Feldast as quickly as possible. Your trip is filled with the sounds of roaring engines, and the faint chanting of one of the priests as he sang hymns and told of the greatness of the Emperor's work, yet above all of that is the feeling of anxiety of the fights and battles to come.

You can't tell how long it takes for the force to come to a stop, but your group roars to a stop as the sounds of gun fire and explosions begin to echo through the tunnel. Leaping up you began to roar orders, and everyone jumps to comply as troops pile out of the scout vehicles which in turn move into a defensive position across the tunnel itself, you quickly find yourself in cover behind a scout salamander with the Cadet Malkom to your side and a dozen soldiers peeking around the sides of armor and steadying their lasguns on the hull. Shortly after, with nothing but the low rumble of the engines and the heavy breathing of the soldiers around you to fill the silence you see something in the distance coming around the bend in the tunnel flashing signals to you with a light in the dimness of the tunnel.

Slightly reassured you signal to Malkom and a few of the soldiers nearby to follow you as you break off from the ragged line of armor and begin to plod along the tunnel with your lasgun raised sweeping the darkness for any sign of a foe. Not long after as the form closes in you see its not one person but several, a few slinking through the shadows with their camo cloaks hugged close around them carrying guns and munitions in their arms and a few with minor wounds. At their head you find Old Ironside himself, he gives a quick salute to you as he grows closer before starting right into it,

"Sir we might have a minor problem, seems what intel we got was right cause they've already taken the city, or part of it at least. What I'm trying to say is that they know we're coming now and they're prepared for it, that damn fort's sealed shut and they've got a pair of Tarantula's up their armed with bolters ready to mince any think that gets close. I don't know about you but I think this mission has already turned a failure Colonel, we've got barely a hundred men in total, limited munitions, and not enough firepower to blast through that fething gate. Its your choice sir but I just lost nearly ten good men in a few seconds mounted on bikes in front of that gate."

Send word back for 6 additional infantry,4 heavy weapons and 4 anti tank teams to move up to support us. Form up Heavy weapons and anti tank using vehicles as a barricade and placing them in between with infantry in reserve. Place scouts on the flanks concealed on foot with bikes bake out of the way.

Deliver speech that the chaos dogs are hiding behind turrets and walls because they're scared of us after what we did to such a large force of them on Salix to inspire our men.

Once our reinforcements arrive then taunt the enemy to encourage them to charge the tunnel into our firing line. Have the Cader attempt to use his special gift to sense how many enemies are in the fort.

Do we have blueprints of this place?

It's an underground city, which means it has several key differences, if we can infiltrate and shut down their ventilation systems, we can force them to leave the fort.*

*Normally, forts would have their own back-up life support, but from what I know of the source material, OSHA compliance isn't a priority.
