Erm. What?

I only noticed the phrasing of that after I zoomed to the event and was very confused about where I ended up. Instead of going to the caverns with its pup-catcher, I was shown the random corner in which I'd placed the male.

Turns out that the caste names for male and female giant armadillos are reversed. It's on the wiki too.

Honestly at the time, I didn't see what could go wrong with crowding 80 military Dwarves into a small room with a necromancer for the purpose of making bacon.

I forgot which forum I was in.

I guess I could ask if any other creatures have wonky caste names.

The only other case i'm aware of are stoats. In contrast to the real-world terminology, males are called 'jills' and females 'jacks'.

Yeah, i had way too many cage traps and just went around taming and breeding anything that got caught.

Anyway, congrats to your breeding population of shell-providers!

I was actually going to use them as punchbags. But yes, giant armadillo shell items will be a nice change of pace.

They actually give shell? good to know. Editing giant slugs so they breed and don't die too fast works, but it got everyone eating slug, not a nice solution

Giant wild boars have the same problem.  It seems to come from the giantification process  The animal gets renamed as 'giant whathavyew' but caste names are either not carried over or wiped clean by the rename.

It's faster to write "!!science!!" than any of the synonyms: "mad science", "dwarvern science", or "crimes against the laws of god and man".

No, the non-giant animal is already called 'wild boar'. That's also the name of the male caste, while the female is called a 'wild boar sow'. The giant version simply has no different names for its castes. It's different with giant armadillos and stoats, which _do_ have different caste names, but accidentally attached the female name to the male caste and vice versa.
