Build a bunch of drawbridges between the structure and your fortress. Trap the military in. Always be more cautious than is likely necessary. This game likes to fuck with people.

there was a massive science thread dedicated bolt materials and when it comes to bolts steel is technically the best. I would like someone to rerun the test using bows and arrows though. also with archery ranges if you want every marksdwarf to use it at once you need a range for every dwarf in the squad. so 10 targets each making a range room. its quite bonkers...

The results were a bit odd, with bluemetal armor and bolts being less effective than its other metal counterparts, and it seems that weight is the most important aspect of a bolt.

Also, I don't believe that there would be much of a difference between bows and crossbows, as they both have similar raws:

Though crossbows have a larger size, making them slightly better for bashing enemies with.

And I have to agree that I wish we could just have one designated archery range that encompassed all the other targets rather than having to make them all their own separate designation.

Basically, your best choice is to, dig down to the general area and then seal it off until you're ready to go down and storm the zombie hut. Start a breeding program, mass producing bone crossbow bolts. Build some Archery Targets out of some generic material and draft a bunch of useless migrants (You WILL get them if you wait long enough), keep them on inactive status, give them crossbows and set them to train with bone bolts only. If you set up your targets right, with a 5x1 hallway that leads to the target, with all adjacent tiles channeled out except for the one that connects it to the hallway (ramps left in), then the dwarves will stand at the edge of the "room" that you define from the archery target menu, unload their quivers, and most of the bolts should bounce off and land in the little pit you channeled out. Strip mine the area directly below the target range to give haulers access to the bolts, so you can haul them back to the stockpile and reuse them. You'll have to unforbid them before you can reuse them.

Against most organic, unarmored targets (AKA zombies), any material of crossbow bolt will be equally effective. That is to say, brutally so. No need to waste metal on these guys, just pump them full of kitten bone bolts and once the corpses are done rotting, you should be good to go.

that was indeed the thread i was referring to. the armor is pretty fine except wood bolts for some reason but ya candy arrows or pointless because they lack mass

I dug straight down and when i reached the 13th z-level I found out that it was the -13 z-level...
I only found 2 caverns(including the one connected to the structure built of Smooth Slade) on my way and no magma.That's not normal is it? I must have missed them right?
When I reached the -13th level I found a lot of undead just as you warned me. I easily killed them losing only 1 spearman and 1 baby out of 40 soldiers. I thought "Well that was easy."
I told my soldiers to get back and train and issued the order to dismantle the structure. I bet the worker had never ran so fast in his life.
So this is Hidden Fun Stuff? My worker just left the scimitar on the ground where he found it and now I guess it is unrecoverable. So many things went out in the cavern connected to that structure and there are 4 waiting in front of my bridge I could kill them with a cave in trap I set in the hallway in front of the bridge but I will wait for more to gather. I managed to kill 6 of them without casualties so far(so 500 more?). So will they die if I dig 150 z level to a brook and flood the entire cavern(of if I use magma)?

I have no more problems with the archery range. And I have so many iron bolts that even if I allowed them to train with iron bolts it would probably take them an year to shoot them all.

No, they're immune to magma and drowning.

The temple with the undead is located in the third cavern, which is above the magma. If you're digging your shafts in random places it's moderately easy to miss one or more caverns.

You can recover the scimitar if you kill everything that's standing between you and it.

I am trying to make chickens lay bees as eggs. So far it only produces a single "Tame Small Creature" when a hen lays bees.
Honestly at the time, I didn't see what could go wrong with crowding 80 military Dwarves into a small room with a necromancer for the purpose of making bacon.

Probably Atom Smashing won't work either right?
And also I still haven't had a single siege even though I am in my 4th year with over 4M created wealth. I have had 3 ambushes at the same time though.
Still no megabeasts, semi-megabeasts or forgotten beasts either.

P.S. I noticed that a lot of my soldier had all their body parts in yellow but when i went to the status screen it didn't say anything. Just a second ago they started suffocating one by one. Is there a way to cure the rest or should i send them to do some damage to the enemy before dying?

It's rather unusual to not have any FBs after four years, but maybe they're all in places you haven't revealed yet. If you have 80 dwarves you should be getting sieges, though the frequency of these can vary wildly. I'm currently within range of a tower, and it's sent one half-hearted siege in a little over four years.

Your soldiers are probably going to suffocate before being able to do anything useful, but I guess they can try and go out fighting. They've picked up some sort of nasty syndrome from creature fluids or gases, and the medical system doesn't do anything beyond excising rotten flesh.

Atom smashing won't work. They're too big for that.

HFS is immune to magma, drowning, atom smashing and traps. They are also giant and master fighters and have random syndromes. Some of them can spit webs/fireballs or have fire breath.

The most effective ways to fight them are long corridors of upright spikes linked to lever (think it as a danger room but with steel spikes!), cave-in or very skilled soldiers. Many of very skilled soldiers. Sometimes demons are easier, sometimes not. If there is lot of ones with fire breath, your soldiers are doomed. Fire ball ones slaughtered once my army of ~40 full-steel-clad weapon lords. Massive archery barrages work also.

People sometimes have no siege untill 8 years have passed, no worries there. Same with megabeasts etc. You might have had some FB in the caverns that died before you saw them. Some cavern creatures can kill the weaker kind of FB. The demons will happily slaughter any siege you get, which might be an issue later on

Don't send out the military unless you don't want to bother with recovering their equipment, but yeah, they'll die.

iirc, once you killed all the demons, some will continue to occasionally arrive the normal way as if they were FBs.

After my soldiers killed the HFS in front of the bridge i sent somebody to retrieve the adamantine scimitar but I lost sight of it so now i dont know where it is. Is there a way to find it?
The demons will happily slaughter any siege you get, which might be an issue later on

What do you mean? I have locked them down in the 3rd cavern layer. How could they possibly slaughter sieges? I read in the wiki that some can lead a goblin siege.
Also I am constantly receiving spam messages "The plump helmet man/the crundle/The Rutherer is caught in a cloud of flames!" And when I go the Dead/Missing screen i see a lot of them dead even a couple of dead blind cave ogres. I also read in the wiki that HFS can learn. So can I expect the next time I go down there to meet Legendary fighters, dodgers and so on?

I think he is telling you to make a pit to the caverns from which you can drop enemies using a retracting bridge. (Although this is probably not too advisable unless you can prevent the exit of the demons). 
Now that this topic reveals the nature of HFS and clown tents, you should edit the title to include [SPOILERS] so as to prevent new players from accidentally spoiling their experience.

As mentioned in the previous turn, the most exciting field of battle this year will be in the Arstotzkan capitol, with plenty of close-quarter fighting and siege warfare.  Arstotzka, accordingly, spent their design phase developing a high-altitude tactical bomber.

Wall off all of your fort except for the secure surface entrance, then you dig down to the caverns from outside of your fortress linking the caverns and the outside world. This way you only have one entrance to defend and the HFS/FB will attack the sieges/ambushes.

And Forgotten Beasts and megabeasts will attack demons too. With varying effectiveness- fleshy ones, even dragons, go down quickly, while inorganics and bronze colossi are demon killers.
