Three months or not at all, actually. If the egg-layer is disturbed for any reason, the eggs will never hatch, but the egg layer may still sit on them anyway, giving the illusion of them still being incubated. They will stay by the eggs until either they or the eggs are taken away, as eggs won't rot in a nest-box.

Unfortunately, many things can disturb an egg-layer, such as a trainer trying to tame them, too much traffic by the nest box forcing them off of it (as I learned when I put some chickens in my meeting hall), and being spooked by a hostile creature/invader.

They have hatched in the meantime and another clutch too, even after I have butchered the parents. Didn't understand that, but I'm happy with it.
