DF Guitar problem.
« on: July 13, 2013, 05:48:45 am »

I am new to dwarf fortress and i loved the music the first time heard it. So i looked for the tabs and they were perfect but here is the problem.
I played it on my Yamaha C30M (it was tuned right) but it didn't sound as beautiful as it does in-game.Is that because of the strings or the guitar itself?

I don't mean to be rude, but it sounds like you don't have much formal musical training. There's a lot more to music than putting all the notes in the right order, although it is very hard to know what you need to do to improve without private instruction. You have to improve your playing quite a bit before your instrument is the thing holding you back, and you'd know if you were at that point.

I understand your point. I have been playing classical guitar for 3 years and the songs i learn sometimes don't mean anything if you don't add your own feelings into your play. DF theme also needs your feelings. But what about the sound, what can i do to make it sound closer to the original, i just can't play like this.

How could I or anyone else know what you need to do to improve your sound without having heard you? If you could post a recording of yourself, you may get some meaningful advice. BTW, I'm not a guitarist, so I wouldn't be able to give you specific advice regarding guitar technique.

There's tons of things that could be doing it. The kind of strings you're using, the size and shape of your guitar, the material of your guitar, the state of your nails, your articulation. Playing from tabs, you could also be getting timing mixed up, potentially in subtle ways.
