It still strikes me that that would be rather scary.

Especially since your plan for not looking like an ice-covered skeleton involves more ice and bone.

Yeah but at least we'd be able to wear clothes and armor to conceal us. Plus we could always ensure that our ice mask has a smiley face on it.

We don't have any clothes, extremely antique armor wouldn't be much better than ice as far as looking-human goes, and are you serious with that smiley-face thing?

Yeah, it'll make us look so ridiculous people won't be as terrified.

When our alternative is that, it's probably better to be honest.

I thought our alternative consisted of humanoid golems and telepathic ventriloquy...

Considering that the golems are made of bone and ice? We'd need darn good disguises. And we'd need to learn that reverse-ventriloquism fast. And we'd need to have an excuse for being made of bone and ice, and for that dragon thing following them (over the course of days and weeks, the cloud disguise wouldn't work; too many days with too few clouds, barring extreme luck).

We could pretend to be a mage and blame the safety hazards of !!SCIENCE!!
(I'm pretty much acting as the voice of insanity for this thread, after all, this IS Bay12, so every thread needs one. Plus I like the idea of a ventriloquist puppeteer skeletal dragon :P)

// I'm going to sleep for 8 or so hours and you already spawn a 3-page-long discussion. Stay classy, Bay12. I wish I could participate, but timezones and my phone refuse to work together with me. In any case...
Also, by popular demand (or lack thereof) - OOC thread.

The airship is below us, but it seems that they've spotted either us, or our node, as they slowly begin to ascend and turn to face the node side to side.
Before you begin to do anything, you heard a loud blast and a white-hot sphere flying in your direction from the side of the ship part of the airship, but not directly at you. It's nothing of the sorts you've seen before, and it becomes even stranger as the sphere suddenly explodes violently into a thousand smaller shreds that bombard the side of the island, breaking it out of the equilibrium slightly, but still retaining its balance.

Things seem to be get even rougher as you see a few people jumping out of the airship and suddenly beginning to fly. Fires and smoke are coming out of the strange, iron packs on their backs and they're flying in your direction, holding iron sticks with wood beneath.

The world has changed indeed. The new technologies astonish you as a group of three such flying people (of a race you can't recognize, but they're definitely not dwarven since they're fairly tall and don't have beards, but for all you know they might as well be new-age dwarves) closes in on your node.

Telepathically communicate with them and ask them to stop shooting at our house. Seek employment from them as well. Tell them that we're willing to work for those kickass wood metal things that fire stuff as payment.

Employment? Screw that; we be dragon. Employ them.

As you try to telepathically speak to one of them, he freaks out and drops his item and starts to fly with no control until he finally crashes into the mountain and in all likelihood dies. His mind was too puny to withstand the possibility of telepathy and went insane.
The other two seem to ignore that fact, at least for the time being as they surround you. (to the best of their abilities) With their contraptions pointed at you, you notice their pointy ear and skin tone - they are elves. The last race you would expect to gain such technology.
One of them starts to talk, with a medium-high voice and distinct accent. You did know Elven fairly well, back in the day, but it has changed drastically since then. You still manage to understand the elf, if not without trouble.

Use magic to draw in the air the following text in mist or ice:
"A wandering traveler of ages long past, seeking employment from whomever is willing to heed me. I'll be quite happy to be paid in those marvelous contraptions of yours, you know, the ones that you are all pointing at me. They seem really interesting and I, unfortunately, haven't really caught up with the times."

This one responded to the telepathy a bit more lightly, but still with a bit of concern. You can see his hands shake slightly.
"The vouice...The ice...Are...Are oyu THE Harbingre of Cold? It is...IT'S IMPOSSIBEUL!" - he screams as he begins to fly back to the airship, leaving the last elf alone with you. You both stare at the airship as the elf quickly looks at you and says with a bold tone:

"So...I guess you want that?" - he says and points at his contraption.

// Elves. Everytime.

Use magic to draw in the air the following text in mist or ice:
"Yes, I'll be willing to work or pay for it, after all I own that flying tomb and admittedly, I don't care too much for the gold held within. As your companion has said, I was once known as the Harbinger of Cold. Though I don't intend to do, well, whatever I did when I was referred to as thus, I mean, after all, I got killed because of it so I don't plan to repeat that any time soon. I'd rather pursue other career options, such as something in the construction industry. Or frozen confectionery, I've got a feeling that could become quite popular. Or ventriloquy. Especially ventriloquy since I can't talk normally due to my lack of vocal chords."
