I'm pretty sure we're leaving.

And, Bucket, do you have any better ideas for transporting treasure than walking ice chests?

Why transport it? We can come back.

Further...why transport it on our initial reconnaissance? We want to know what's out there, not announce to the world our presence. An army will be loud, visible and noticeable. An army made of gold is a loud, visible and noticeable hero and thief magnet.

Quote
Piles of gold and jewelry leave a bright shine thorough the entire room. You could
easily buy out an entire city with that amount of wealth accumulated.

Do you really think it's a good idea to march around with a heavy, slow-moving army carrying "enough gold to buy an entire city" in which every time any random hero kills a footsoldier, they get a great big pile of gold for it?

I see no benefit to this.

1. I said "walking chests," not "Store it in our main combatants, what could go wrong?" That second idea is pretty good.

2. I got the feeling most of us wanted to head out and never return. If we're going to come back, by all means leave it here--with some guards, but here.

3. You didn't answer my actual question.

-1 to carrying our gold with us. We can freeze the place or fill it with living ice if we really need to defend it.

And if you check my post you'll see that I wsa replying to Mithras' post, which incidentally... you also gave a -1 to.

I didn't get that impression myself. And planning to never come back before we've even seen what's ten feet beyond our front door seems kind of silly to me.

You didn't answer my actual question.

I don't have enough information to answer it. Neither do you. We have no idea how effective the Vitaglacia spell is, nor what its limitations are. How much weight can one animated ice chest reasonably carry? Is there a practical limit to the number we can create? How long do they last and how long do they take to make? If we can sit down in 24 hours and make N golem ice chests that will be strong enough to transport the entire hoard and will last forever at no additional cost to us...then no, no better way to transport the hoard comes to mind. If it will take months to make enough because they can't carry 10 times their own weight, then yes...hiring or enslaving living laborers would probably be better. Or, if there's a limit to the number we can make due to mana maintenance costs, then ice chests might not even be an option. Will the GM let us make an infinite number of golems? I assume not. How many would we need, how long would it take to make them, and how durable are they? Do they last forever? 24 hours? 1 hour per point of mana? Forever indoors, but only a few hours in sunlight? Without answers to questions like these, I can't tell you whether other methods will be better or worse.

In any case, I see no reason to move the hoard at all.

1. And I was asking more generally about walking chests of ice.

2. Debatable; True.

3. Do we have access to any servants? I haven't seen any, and don't see much chance of any coming up.
The narrative mentioned armies of ice golems, so we can probably make a few walking ice chests without terrible drain on us.

Apologies for all the fuss, my assumption was that we would want to draw attention to ourselves. After all we have been sitting in a skeleton which has been doing nothing for 5000, it's high time for some contact with sentient beings of some sort and be entertained right? If it turns out sentient being still exist that is.

Further I assume the gold is pretty much useless to us. Now I'm not sure why dragons hoard gold but the pile right there clearly did little to stop us from being killed last time, why not use it to attract attention?

Clearly these assumptions are not held by many others, apparently we fear that we are not (yet) the most terrifying thing in the locality and therefore that we should stay hidden.

Now that's been cleared up shall we create some ice/bone golems and some ice golems as small as we can make them. So we can be inocuous as possible when we do break out and scout around. Which hopefully we'll get too soon.

We could always create a humanoid golem and put it in thick insulative robes and pretend to be a traveling mage who amuses themselves by animating dragon skeletons.

// While Vitaglacia can be very powerful, with creation of said armies of mindless ice soldiers, keep in mind that after five thousand years of stasis our magical abilities may have rusted a bit, or a lot.
// And don't get too ahead of yourself. Given how much the world may or may not have changed, your ice skeleton army might be as terrifying as it was back in the day or we're just going to make fools of ourselves.

Oddly enough, you can't recall hoarding all this treasure here, or anywhere for that matter. You did like destruction, but money was never your thing, since there just wasn't much for you to do with it, so you never bothered.

I now have an incredible urge to plate ourselves with priceless treasures to become pimpest skeletal dragon in existence.
Try and devise a contraption that will allow us to use our magic to simulate speech. If it works, practice ventriloquy and reverse-ventriloquy.
If all else fails and our golems are hard to control, I guess we'll have to stage our puppet show using hand puppets.

I'd say use Murita & Vitaglacia to give ourselves ice-flesh. Complete with our best attempt at an icy voice-box.

+1 to scouting around, (if you look closely, I was just playing devil's advocate with the chest-golems)

As for this place;
It's weird. We've got a hall of coffins, a treasure room, and a 5000-year-old skeleton of a mighty dragon (complete with plaque!).
If anything, this makes me think we're in the 'pyramid of forgotten heroes' or somesuch.
Assuming they knew we would return at 5000 years, (which would be a strangely round number if it wasn't planned), I would say make the golems anyway- just in case there are any wards put in place to reanimate them to 'Slay it again!'. There are an awful lot of them after all, and they were entombed with their gear. Sure, any wards that we wouldn't have triggered by stumbling around here are probably destroyed along with the entryway, but hey.

As for why it's abandoned, I'd say it must have been built in the boonies. If it was in a city, it would either be known & preserved, or destroyed in some war. Or it miraculously survived the apocalypse, (& judging by the state of maintenance, I'd say we're a few years/decades late).

Let's go count the skyscrapers and meet the hyper-intelligent energy-beings which inhabit them!

Been discussed. Many issues.

Tempting...

Wait, do you mean the soldiers with treasure in them or the golems whose only purpose was carting treasure?

I was with you until somewhere around the apocalypse.

More likely, the civilization of the surrounding area collapsed.

Magic! Some kind of ice-skeleton hybrid.

I was thinking of the humanoid skeletons, but an ice "body" could help, too.

Experiment with that!
