Too much peace. Im confused.
« on: June 12, 2008, 08:20:00 pm »

It seems that after 5 long years of hard work the local hostiles have gotten bored with my fine establishment. I'm sitting at a comfortable 137 fairly happy dwarfies and I've noticed that I no longer seem to attract any kind of threats. I survived my second goblin siege of about 30 or so strong last year and since then I've seen  neither hide nor hair of anything. No goblins, not even an errant kobold thief or snatcher. Do I offend? Is the vomit and bone-strewn floors of my murder halls starting to smell? How do you say "Janitor on vacation" In goblin?

Normally I'd be glad for the peace but I've recently constructed an improved defense and I've hit my first couple master macedwarves. Have they just lost interest or am I doing something to discourage their raids? Thanks for the help!

Dutsmon emxa: stasno? I'm unfamiliar with Goblin grammar...

Regardless, if you're not being seiged, you probobly either don't have enough dwarves or you don't have enough wealth.. if you have already BEEN sieged, you have enough wealth, do you have at least 80 dwarves?

EDIT: You have 100+, didn't notice before... how long have you been waiting?

EDIT2: You've waited a year... I don't know what to say anymore

But I don't think you should worry.  I've gone years without getting sieges, then I will get a several in the space of a few years.  Since you've already got your first sieges, I'd say just be patient.

Hmm. I'd say this would be my second year awaiting a siege. I just recently accepted another group of migrants bumping me to 147. Perhaps I should start building up some more platinum statues and paved gold roads. I can create wealth I suppose. I've just been somewhat conservative.

*edit* for hard numbers, I'm sitting at 428,628 created wealth and 206,625 imported.

i find removing the baby snatcher tag works wonders if you are looking for action.

I got some fairly amazing sieges with 2 million wealth.  Something like 80 goblins and 20 trolls pouring in from all sides.  Fun stuff.

The thing is that after such an invasion the goblins usually lose a bunch of their leaders and need some time to recuperate.  In the meantime you might see a megabeast, but its really map specific.

Back in those times, war was common, but individual sieges were rare. You would have a siege on a major population center every year or two. It takes _time_ to get an army big enough to lay siege, and if they failed last time, they aren't going to try again anytime soon without lots more troops.  :D

So just rest assured the next time they come will produce even more gobbo bones!

Just as I was attempting to complete a new and improved method to drown goblins they show up. Their timing, as always, impeccable. Regardless, they have arrived! 70+ cute little goblins lead by, a first for me, several weapon lords! This will be a most interesting siege. Hoorah!

*Update* Planning paid off ^_^ I killed about 50 of them and the rest turned tail. I need some volunteers to help clean out the drowning pools!

That's why you drop them in magma pools instead. No muss, no fuss! Self-cleaning goblin disposal system!

But then you don't get loot from them.

Heh, I think the goblins just need to upgrade their radio tower network.  They're not producing fresh goblins fast enough to fill the ranks.

The dwarven economy is just a stand-in, from what I understand. As it is, it represents an actual economic system about as well as poison ivy represents a salad.
