Let your rep recover and build up growth. Hold free elections and stuff until you get growth up then recruit more troops.

So, it seems like Free Housing doesn't actually increase QoL? I've tried it a couple times since my QoL dropped to Poor, but all it seems to do is increase popularity. Incidentally, I'm Worshiped as a God and I'm a Liberal Democracy, but nonetheless my growth only improves from stability, not popularity- popularity just seems to give me a second stability boost.

Apparently I was on the veeeeery edge between Pariah and Mad Dog, and just went Axis of Evil. Shiiiii. I have heard that it doesn't reset your GDP but resets everything else, and also that it resets everything but tech. Clarification?

edit: also, anyone want to hold onto 10k troops, about 800k cash, and as much oil as I can possibly send for me? I have 22 barrels, and will have 800k before the next turn

Heh, so the game does have random events.  La Jartia just got hit by an earthquake that took out my growth and took my QoL to poor.

BUT: I also got a million in "unregulated aid".  So after prospecting (no oil, darn), two hospitals and some pig iron I have less growth than I did before, but even higher QoL.

You could always try developing chemical weapons up to 50% and then disarming.. that may somehow boost you back up.

It's not a guarantee, but there's a chance each turn. Still, better safe than sorry - but under no circumstances do anything that might make it worse.
