You can't attack before 115GDP anyway.
You might want more soldiers, and maybe a better training. I'd recommend having a strong military over a strong economy anyday. Don't hesitate to gimp your growth if want to have more time developping your army, I don't think people will attack you if your army is big and the benefits small.

Used it twice, one time it had no effect and the second time it reduced growth :C

I guess I'll get back to begging with blood diamond money to improve growth. Quality of life is as high as it's ever been mostly because double hospitals kick it so high up it's rather hard to bring back down.

Yeah, don't use Great Leap Forward if you have humanitarian. Humanitarian aid is the same, except it can't fail, and cost 25k less.

So should I be at war attacking weaker/inactive opponents all the time? I have 10k soldiers, they're undisciplined rabble and they have first world war equipment. I just built a hospital (no idea if a good idea). My GDP is $110 million and growth is $5 million. Should I attack someone to speed up progress?

Pretty much. What I typically do is just take 75% of my GDP, and search for nations with that GDP. I primarily search for people who aren't in an alliance (Extremely important), and aren't maintaining their army. You ALWAYS want to make sure you're attacking someone with the same tech level (won't matter at low GDP, since everyone has WW1 tech anyways), and your troops have better training. Hospitals are a great way to build up initial quality of life and approval, but that'll naturally grow on its own.

It might sound boring, but that's what you gotta do. Attack weak nations who are too stupid to join an alliance or make themselves not look like easy targets. Once we have most of the group at around 300+, then I imagine we can get involved with fights between other alliances and whatnot. I'm not going to lie, it's not going to be particularly deep or engaging, but it'd be nice to leave a mark somewhere.

Well, it appears you can attack even with less than 115GDP. Or maybe it shouldn't, but it works.

Also, there's lots of people who start the game, and then quit, and their nation will grow on their own.

Well you kind of need a gdp of 267 to get the $400 to drill, so I doubt that anyone but 2 of the alliance has.

You could with GDP 200 and blood diamonds. Or by doing blood diamond just before a new month, and doing it again.
