Migs are worth it in my opinion they give your ground forces a bonus and help protect you from bombing and are really cheap.

I, for one, killed a virgin and used blood magic in an unholy grotto to summon a familiar for the purpose of playing this game. But I'm sure there are alternatives.

Dude, just use a crystal ball. Since they run on fairy dust, it's a lot cheaper than virgin blood. Why does anybody even use grottos anymore.
