Sham'yek nodded, and grabbed the Bruiser, as well as another Male Gnome to go take a look around. Meanwhile, the rest of you unload the Bio-Wagon, and begin to set up a small camp. Some food rations are past out(-3 bread), and the Bio Wagon is set to camp mode, and unfolds, producing Five units of wood as well as Ten sleeping bags.. Lal'ren gets to setting out the sleeping bags, while one female Gnome takes Three Mythril Bars, and The Enchanting Rune and tinkers up a little furnace. It should be able to melt anything you put in, or cook food, but only one unit at a time. (+1 Magic Furnace)

Let's hold of the crazy for the first few rounds and get to a point where we can do as much of that as we want, without jeopardizing all of our gnome-kind, no?

FINE, mom...

Anyways, smelt some mithril into swords and basic construction tools, particularly axes and picks. Requisition axes to the gnomes and chop wood.

Lal'ren looks about, checking the tools and such to make sure everything is in order.

...And to give the players an idea of what we have. Before we smelt anything.

Glass can wait until we have a functioning settlement.

We are in the desert. It could be all we have to start building with. If we are playing by DFis rules it makes passable giant trap components and blocks you can build from. If not, we can still invent some sort of anti-personel weapons system that launches glass shrapnel.

Wait for the exploration party to get back.

See what primitive shelter is built with the wood. See to it that both the females are assigned to bunk with the Gnoll for now. Racial purity can wait until we have a few future guards on our hands.

There's a reason I'm having us check our supplies and tools. If we have picks, for instance, we'll want to use our wood to support a tunnel into the ground so we can get stone and ores and stuff.

I should apologize. I kind of change the rules on you guys. This is adapted from a thread game where threads tended to disappear after so long, so 3 posts agreeing with one thing were needed to keep it from 404. I've updated the OP to reflect the new rule. Also, We're taking from just straight imagination. As long as it's semi-reasonable in fantasy terms, I'm fine with pretty much everything.

The "expedition" party comes back visibly shaken. The sit down around the fire and nibble on some bread (-3 Bread) They come back, and the Gnoll begins recanting the story in his.... unique way.

"We walk along ridge, look for anything good. As we walk, Sham'Yek fall in hole! Me jump in after! Down there we see deep black sand! As I help Sham'Yek Up, we hear big scary growl. I push him through hole and turn around to mosh whatever want hurt us, but there nothing there! It must go on for long time!"

The rest of the party tells everyone the dimensions of the Ridge. It seems to be about 150 feet long, and is closed on either end. The hole Sham'Yek fell into is about 100 feet from camp. Other than that, there are no visible resources other than normal sand, a few more tumble weeds, and whatever that black sand is.
Meanwhile, Lal'Ren double checks all of the materials, and counting what was used, all seems to be in order. He takes Two Mithril Bars and a Piece of Wood. He smelts the two bars together, making a semi-large amount of liquid Mythril. You let the Liquid Mythril cool, and due to the magic properties of the furnace, it stays liquid until removed. He carefully shapes 1 Crude Mythril Pickaxe.
No Wooden shelter is to be made from the wood, It simply sits in a pile waiting to be used. The women are instructed that for the good of the colony, they would need to bed with the Gnoll. They grimace, but accept after some convincing. The Gnoll seems happy, anyway.

...Whose idea was this?

Have a shovel made by the carpenter, and have a tunnel dug down through the sand, supported by wood to keep it from collapsing, until stone is struck.

Send a volunteer to get a sample of this black sand!

Mine. We have enough tinkers for the moment. We will need goons. Of course we get no babies of any sort if all the updates cover such a short amount of time.

Edit: I live in the desert. Bedrock is shallow in the desert. We shouldn't need a shovel to hit it.

Might as well do what GWG wants and dig out some Hobbit Gnoll Holes. Keep eyes peeled for good resources while digging. Also, we should be eating the meat first, because it wont last as long... unless it is preserved.

Who says you can't build something to rush Pregnancy along? You're Gnomes dammit, anything is possible. And the meat is semi preserved, as in salted and smoked, but won't last as long as the bread unless something more is done.

The shovel is better than digging with bare hands, isn't it?

No need to worry, I am sure Mr. Scraggle will fill a special place in their hearts soon enough. Or so I would hope at least.

Scouting around the ridge after the sandstorm stops
, is one thing we should not forget. For now getting some construction going like GWG is advocating, seems to be pretty much the only constructive thing we could do.
