Pet Tim the Pyromancer.

The squishy, swirly mauve orb jumps out of your hand once it is outside of the bag. The cat catches it, and a giant flash occurs, followed by the elementals halting to shout at your direction, though you have no idea what they're saying. You look up and the cat is floating. Its also glowing purple and the glow seems to have attracted the elementals to charge toward it instead of each other.

You attempt to pet Tim and he asks you what the hell you're doing with the cat. He also asks if you try to pet everyone you've just met.

But Tim, how could we have only just met? I already know your name, so we must have met before! Unless I'm a telepath. Or really lucky. Or a stalker. Definitely not a stalker. No I don't normally pet people I've just met. You're just pettable. Sorry.

But my name isn't Tim in the first place. The only people who call me that are the academy folk who never asked for your full name, and the class I was introduced to. They just asked for a name, and now some call me...Tim.

How many? What kind?

Previously, they'd been too far away to identify other than 'Elementals'. As they're quickly closing the gap however, you can differentiate them by primary arcana, although probably not precisely as would be useful:

1. A squadron of Flame elementals
2. A scattered group of ~4 Air elementals
3. Some sort of murky elemental-like thing. It looks too dirty to be water or earthen.

That's... worse than expected. Send one of the remote-control frogs out to mess with them, see if they go for it.

Worse than expected is pretty standard for negative numbers on a d20 roll, especially ones that cause explosions

You throw one of the remote control frogs out towards a separate direction. It hits a stray arcing flare and disintegrates to no effect. Dismayed, you debate whether or not to take the cat or ignore things and befriend Tim in someway.
