how do I fix the title on all the posts? I want to make it "nations" instead of "races".

Also, kobolds could be the French, seeing as how they always run away from battle. :P

I think you can change the title just by editing the first post.

And...  Check this out. The myth of "French running away" born during WWII, since they surrendered. Before that they were the greatest military power of europe (before the unification of Germany and Prussia). After 17th century french armies kicked some ass and during Revolutionary/Napoleonic wars they fought against whole europe and fucking won 3/4 of the battles. During the Middle Ages they fought hundred years war with England and ultimately won it and conquered all England's lands in French soil (except Calais).

France has done a lot of winning of wars, historically. Like, a lot. Even the sissy-fleeing-French idea developed from the aforementioned WWII thing is somewhat misplaced considering that the modern trench-coated badass resistance fighter archetype is largely their doing. Jean Moulin* was all kinds of cool. Honestly I have no idea where we get the sissy French idea from, but the same can probably be said of most national stereotypes in view of the fact that the ways we are so inclined towards labeling ourselves generally fall short of the actual fact of the matter even on an individual basis, much less a whole culture.

*there might be one minor inaccuracy in the article as far as I am aware, but it is less intimidating than a Wikipedia page so I went with it instead.

Now, who is HFS?

I'd say it's russians. Napoleon marched too deep, Hitler marched too deep into russian soil. And then they unleashed the wrath which destroyed them. Nazism is pretty much like a story of a Dwarven Fortress - a peaceful start, fast and amibiguous expansion, wins after wins, then they piss off the world and the fortress slowly falls into a chaotic ruin.

Except the Mongols managed to take much of what would later become Russia, even burning Moscow, before being stopped by a succession crisis.

Actually, I dare say the Clowns are the Mongols: seemingly limitless in number, highly mobile, and they will kill until not a man, woman, or child stands, before they move on to kill somewhere else; they are a terrifying foe that will chew through your strongest and best armed dwarves, who may only be stopped by clever anti-siege warfare.

Common Clown adversaries would also then include crossdressing, avalanches, fireworks, dragons, and lone women.

Lol how's that for historical inaccuracy?

Kobolds: described as "skulking filth", attacked by every race outright, forced to steal which reinforces their reputation, and do not build many settlements, suggesting a migratory lifestyle. In the middle ages.

There are two options that would work here, and both would get me stoned to death, so I'll let you do the figuring for me.

I'm guessing Romani and Jews?

They're probably the two most historically persecuted nations in that era.

I think it's a combination of their more artistic culture, British resentment of the French running back to the early medieval period, and that sort of thing, and of course a touch of good ol' American bravado.

I agree with this. Also, the clowns magical poisonous stuff could be compared to Mongols spreading the Black Plague by tossing dead stuff over the walls of caffa.

What would the kobolds be?

Liberals.

I mean, it's not really that hard, is it? Anyone can wield a torch, it doesn't prove anything. Wearing flaming clothes on the other hand, or better yet, wearing nothing at all and being on fire... that is the essence of dwarfish behavior."

Nazism is pretty much like a story of a Dwarven Fortress - a peaceful start, fast and ambitious expansion, wins after wins, then they piss off the world and the fortress slowly falls into a chaotic ruin.

Also atrocities (as practiced by some DF players: eugenics programs, drowning chambers etc). And the lust for superweapons.

It would fit with the kobolds' reputation among the Bay12 population - poor, misunderstood and worthy of compassion. And everyone's trying to kill them.
