Cataclysm: Mutant Play
« on: July 09, 2013, 07:39:24 pm »

So here's the idea.  I warm up Cataclysm: Dark Days Ahead and I roll a regular character idea, then use the debug menu to mutate myself.

So the first question is, what stats, skills, and traits would you recommend for a REGULAR character?
http://www.wiki.cataclysmdda.com/index.php?title=Stats
http://www.wiki.cataclysmdda.com/index.php?title=Skills
http://www.wiki.cataclysmdda.com/index.php?title=Traits

Then what mutations to take on?
http://www.wiki.cataclysmdda.com/index.php?title=List_of_mutations

I'd like to stick with a single type, personal preference towards 'bird' but other types are fine.  The thing I want to do, is begin with a regular old character, and THEN apply mutations.  If certain ones overlap then an upgrade may be made - for instance, if I naturally have 'night vision' then mutate into a form that has night vision, I might upgrade it to 'perfect night vision'.

Finally, what challenges, if any?  The only reservation is to allow vehicles, otherwise pretty much any rules are allowed.  Well, maybe not carnivore/herbivore, as diet can be extremely important depending on the amount of wolves/triffids nearby.

So what shall I go for?  Bird, tree, and insect look fun.  Beast, cattle, and rat look entirely less entertaining.

Your challenge is to get 30 flasks.

There's a second part to this challenge. If you wish, I can send it to you via PM. I'd rather it remain secret until you get ye flasks, however.

Is this a silly task or does this actually go somewhere?  I mean is the 2nd part something like "Set them in a square and then kill yourself" or something?

The challenge goes many places. Killing yourself is only possible during the course of completing the challenge, I assure you.

And I'd go with a hexagon were I this much of a dick.

Pentagons are harder to do on a square gird.

Fine, challenge acknowledged.  Still need more to work with though.

Go for plant and try to create a character who doesn't need to even move to survive.

Unfortunately there's no way to collect water without any motion - though a funnel 1 tile away can provide endless water during rain, and the 'leaves' mutation gives nutrition when clear or sunny.  So it's close!

Well the point isn't to be useful, it's to be 'cool' and then deal with it.

That's why I proposed that. If you combine that with that bionic (recycling unit?) which makes you eat less, maybe you can have an almost perfect plant character.

There IS a bionic that lets you collect water without movement, and if you get the solar panel power source, then you can literally stand still all day and do nothing.

Ustxu Iceraped the Frigid Crystal of Slaughter was a glacier titan. It was the only one of its kind. A gigantic feathered carp composed of crystal glass. It has five mouths full of treacherous teeth, enormous clear wings, and ferocious blue eyes. Beware its icy breath! Ustxu was associated with oceans, glaciers, boats, and murder.

The tree idea sounds a bit boring. How about a cephalopod melee character who only uses a gold bar? You can wear a fur trenchcoat, gold rings, silver necklaces, graverobbed relics, etc, and be an octopus pimp with a crazy custom vehicle in the shape of a phallus. With 8 tentacles, you could get the maximum slappage in (which is the reason for cephalopod), but any mutation category would work.

An alternative is to go slime with severe radioactivity and just mutate constantly at random.

One of the other things with being a tree is being Ponderous and slow. You can eat light and be harmful to hit, but you'll be hit a lot.
