You head to the med bay. As you walk through the ship, you have to dodge around the bustling crew attempting to man their posts.

You eventually come to a large pair of double doors, which slide open as you approach. What greets you and the doctors, who decided that they would accompany you and also help out, is a scene of utter chaos.

There are many wounded and the current medical staff are getting overwhelmed.

At the sight of the med bay, your idea of asking about your history with the others to try to find any memory discrepancies seems small. You try it later with no luck however.

You go to the head surgeon, who directs you to help out however you can. As a medical professional yourself, you do manage to help many with minor wounds and even many with major wounds. But the continuous flow of wounded is becoming unbearable.

You have to think of something.

What do you do?

Do they have no robots that can take care of those people who have major injuries? If not some of the military should get involve they should have basic medical training. Then just start sorting them into the major that need beds and the minor that don't nEed beds. Anyways keeps ezploring that station.

Seeing no robots in the medical facility, you commit to your plan. It seems to ease the tension in the air, but only a bit. it does make it more manageable for the staff, which seems even to your untrained eyes to be almost like a skeleton crew.

You ask the head surgeon, whilst your medical friends work their way throughout the hospital, why the facility doesnt have automated medical machinery.

"Its against our ethics to use robotics in this type of work. We do use automation in many other aspects of our medicine, but we like to keep humans in the loop somewhere. Usually, due to our work ethic and the systems we use, it works fine, however with the ship in for repair, many machines down for maintenance and a skeleton medical staff fit only to serve the engineering crews, we are getting overwhelmed. Thanks for the help by the way." With that, eh turns away from you, a nurse tugging him away towards a man who seems to have had both his legs blown off by something green and energy-weapon like.

As you work in the hospital, the captain announces that all survivors have been evacuated and that the ship is entering Warp-space, setting a course for the Vanguard home system, Vanguardia.

Everyone seems to visually calm down, and as the ship leaves the warzone, engineering teams start repairs and the ship itself starts self repairing, you put up a silent prayer, even though you're and atheist, that the majority of the people managed to get out alive.

Casualties being admitted to the medical corps reduce to a trickle, and with the situation now under control, you take a wonder around the ship, wondering what to do next.

Investigate the medical machinery here. How advanced is it?

You investigate the Medical machinery. It is the most advanced you had ever seen. Impressive. Most of the machinery is designed to use various types of individually intelligent nano-machines to do various things. They are mostly automated, howeer as a Vnaguard surgeon yourself, you know that Vanguard policy is to have at least one medical professional who is trained in the manual and automated use of each and every machine in the room when they are in operation. In a vastly understaffed ship, this is hard to do.

Retiring from your long, hard and troubling day, you search out where you will be bunking during your journey. You find that, like all the other evacuees, you have been given a surprisingly comfortable camping-style padded bench to lie on and several nice blankets. You also realise that you will be sleeping next to your medical friends. They are already in their bunks, asleep.

Check if there are any... memory-related machines in the med bay. Particularly ones that might be useful in memory alteration. Failing that, medications that induce permanent amnesia.

Indulge in your previous suspicions - there might be more to them than tech going haywire. Do try to remember if you know any of those failed experimens the "Good Doctors" were not-really-talking-about.

(( Just found this. Oh god, Harry - what you did to this game is between cruel and priceless. Here is hope Kahn does like such suggestions. :P ))

Check if there are any... memory-related machines in the med bay. Particularly ones that might be useful in memory alteration. Failing that, medications that induce permanent amnesia.

You thoroughly check all the machines, of which there are many dozens. You do not, however, find any that relates to memory alteration. From your memory, you cannot even remember ever hearing about Vanguard having memory altering technology. You check another two times, however, just in case. The best you can come up with are several machines that focus on the repair of damage inflicted on the head and brain, plus associated biological systems and functions.

Your search for a memory altering machine ending in failure, you turn your attention to the vast cabinets of medicines, most of them, you see, are actually nano-machine based supplements as well as specialised medical nano-tech infusions. There are some more traditional medicines, although thanks to the Vanguardians being Vanguardians, they rarely use Earth-like medicines due to a hugely bolstered and reinforced immune system and bodily functions.

You gather up all the Earth-Like medicines. In all, there are 23 bottles sat in front of you. None of them have anything to do with memories. They are mostly for mundane ills. Some are basic painkillers. And one bottle contains sleeping pills.

Get a sharp object

Leaving the bottles where they are, you search the place for sharp objects. This being a hospital, it does have a rather hefty collection of objects that are sharp. You pick up a 4 inch hyper-scalpel. You smile as you remember back in Medical Academy when you and Maria Sweetland used to smuggle hyper-scalpels out of the medical labs to cut steel into various sculptures you would then sell to fund your education. Oh, happy days.

Shaking your head, you check the hyper-scalpel. It seems functional. And deceptively sharp. Able to cut through steel like butter and even penetrate and cut through the heavily reinforced skin, muscle, tendons and bone of Vanguardians, it could be used as a highly effective weapon. If you needed to. Which is highly unlikely judging by the fact you are on a friendly ship surrounded by allies......aren't you?hehehe.

Shivering suddenly, like something had just come over you, you put the hyper-scalpel into its nanoronium sheath and pocket it.

As you idly walk around the hospital, you start thinking about your history with the others. ((OOC: Exposition AHOY!)) You have known Maria Sweetland since your childhood. Shes been like a sister to you. You tell each other everything, and you always work together. She was even going to follow you into the military, but you volunteered first. You cant think of anything suspicious about her. In fact, the very thought makes you feel uncomfortable. She is the only person you could call family after the eradication of your home colony.

You start thinking about Professor Delver. A cunning and wise man, he has been a constant acquaintance of yours since the first days of high school. He was the one who hand picked both you and Maria for induction into the Vanguard Advanced Medical Academy. He guided you both through it and was you personal mentor. He is a man of morals, honour and action. There is no way he'd do anything underhanded, especially in relation to you and Maria.

You dont really know much about Dr Frankenstein. You do know that he used to work at a place called 'District 9', where-ever that is. You also know that he loves to do experiments. Whilst certainly eccentric and prone to bouts of excessive excitement, he is a good man, you think. He also seems to have a soft spot for Maria, one which both of you noticed when you caught him sneaking peeks at Maria.

Dr Strangelove is the only one who you know absolutely nothing about. Apparently he used to work at a military installation, Luna-3 you think it was called, which was notorious for being a place for black ops weapons development and, eventually, was found to be using government money to fund adventures into the forbidden technologies of Cybernetics, Human-divergent genetic modification (aka, genetic modification that tried to make humans not human any more. Enhancement of already present human abilities is allowed), biochemical warfare and weaponised nano-tech. You seem to remember overhearing someone, although you forget who, talking about Dr Strangelove's last project at Luna-3. It was called something like Project Doppelganger......

Whilst you have worked with him for a while, and he seems an honest and good man dedicated to his work, you dont know enough about him to have an opinion on his overall character.

Hm... brain surgery, eh? Consider advances in neurology recently. Would it be possible to excise all of these "fond" memories with properly-applied machine surgery?

Grow Suspicions on Dr. Strangelove
Something or the other is fishy here - just asking your own thoughts will prove so. He is the only one we could suspect to do anything harmfull to our psyche. Get some data on the guy, maybe even from your peers.

Yeah.. get some data. By any means necessary. Search for some kind of "truth serum".
If we need to get our fingers dirty on this, we might as well go full force.
